Re: What GPM does an electric fuel pump need to be?
The super duty pump has been proven over and over. There are cheaper pumps and more expensive one but I would stick with a SD pump and not enough then use two of them.

Thanks Ben. Any idea what the super duty pump flows.
What about a Holley blue? Hasn't someone used one of those?

Re: What GPM does an electric fuel pump need to be?
Most of the aftermarket pumps are not specifically designated as diesel compatible. I bought my last SD pump (to run duals) for $200 new (Airtex E2236) and know that a single pump (my Bean's fuel setup) will support 400+ hp properly plumbed. I haven't heard of many SD pump failures but maybe in a regulated return system the failure rate could be higher due to the amount of return fuel flow opposed to the stock dead head SD system. The aftermarket pump survival rates don't seem very high, like the Aeromotive A1000, for example, isn't it rated for only around 2000 hours? I don't recall if any of the common small pumps (like the Holley) are diesel rated or what the life expectancy is. I opted for the SD pump since its been proven to be long term reliable, cheaper than the big Aeromotive, easy to double up and for sure is diesel compatible.
As I recall, someone once posted the OBS federal single shot engines pumped just under 20 gph at around 50psi or so.
