What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Im buying a used chip from a member here. I believe that he said that his truck had the chip were TDE1. And, as far as I can from the stickers on mine I have the NAW6. Right before I purchased my truck it was in the shope for a variety of little things and thought that it could of had the code updated (wishful thinking) What would happen if I plugged the chip into my truck and have the codes mismatch? I called my local ford garage and they want $150 to tell me what code my truck has.

Thanks!

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

If it was reflashed you should have a sticker under the hood. Forgot exactly what it says but something like PCM reflashed and then a Ford number. Mine was a NAW6, but after deciphering the factory numbers, it turned out to be a TDE1. If it is a mismatch your truck won't start, at least mine didn't. Also I think there is a list of codes floating somewhere around here that may help you out.

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Your PCM code would be a DPC-202. As long as you have a code for that family of PCM codes your chip should work, if the chip is a 4 bank chip. A single bank chip it has to match exactly to work.

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

my truck had a sticker on the door jam for the reflash code, it was in ford numbers. if ya click <font color="red"> here</font> you will find the ford numbers converted to the "pcm code" good luck.

Thanks for the info. Anybody know of a cheap place to get the PCM reflashed to match the chip? Can I send my PCM to somebody to do it?

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

If it is a 4 bank chip you are good to go. Just stick it in and it will work. If it is a 1 bank chip then you will most likely have to have it reflashed. It is most likely going to be easier to reflash the chip to your truck rather than the truck to the chip. If you can't tell if it is a 4 bank or 1 bank just stick the chip in. If you don't get a WTS light then it won't work. If you do then it should fire right up and run great!

First of all, I would check the chip to see if its a 4 page before worrying about reflashing the pcm.

Secondly, if it is a single page, then I would see about getting the chip reburned to match the pcm.

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

It is a single stage chip coded for TDE1 w/ shift codes deleted. I may be asking to much here, but I think if you go to the Ford shop that you said might have updated codes on PCM, that with your
vin # ,they should be able to look up everything that has been done to the truck and tell you if it has been done or not. Also, and again I may be wrong, to properly clean the contacts on the PCM you need to remove it and seperate the housing ofthe PCM to get all the coatings off the contacts. At that time there are some numbers on the box. Is it possible to take the numbers and determine PCM code from them? Write down the numbers or anything else off of it, clean coating off the contacts and reinstall PCM. At that point whatever code you come up with all you would have to do then is remove emergency brake and install chip into the PCM and put some tape over it..

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Is it a single stage as in only one program or a single bank as in the programming on it is only one bank. I think a lot of people get the two confused. A 4 bank chip replaces all four banks of memory in the PCM. A single bank chip only replaces one therefore the codes have to match so that the other three banks can be read. You can have either a 4 bank or a 1 bank chip with either one program or several programs. The PCM code is on the connector of the PCM. It is also on a plug that goes where the chip goes. Unless it has been reflashed that will be what the code is.

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Know you got me. All I know is that it has to have PCM code to program it to the specific hp rating you want. It's a BD chip (tuner) module.

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Fish, are you the one selling it to him?

You say chip and tuner, but the process you described would be for a chip.

As Fish said, a BD chip will prolly be a single page chip, and therefore Arcane will need to get his pcm flashed to the tde1 code.

However, I would opt for sending the Chip to Jody Tipton and having him burn it for you and that way you can get some good shift patterns on it.

Or better yet, send the PCM and the chip to Jody, have him flash the pcm to the tde1 code, and put one of his butt kickin burns on it for ya!

Re: What if Chip and Computer code dont match?

Well it depends on who you talk too. One place calls them a tuner and another a chip, then there are the ones that call them a module. I'm beginning to think im going in circles.
I call it a "Performance enhancing computer chip". You Buy it, They down load a program that matches your specific PCM code and Hp desired and you simply slide it right into the PCM. YALA! Instant super truck. They are a good product and do their job. Thats about as much as I know about them.

And to your question. Yes!!!

And to the second part, No! All he has to do is have it reprogrammed to his PCM code. I have allready talk to the local company here that I got it thru. They could have reprogrammed it for him but his BD program wasn't working and they would, if I wanted , send to friend,in O.K. to have it reprogrammed.
