I was towing, well attempting to anyway, to our usual riding spot this weekend and I kept blowing an intercooler hose. I actually have three hoses from the turbo to the hot side of the IC and it was the middle hose. It would blow off every time I got past 12 lbs. of boost. I finally had to use crazy glue to help with the clamps. I will definitely be making a one piece and weld all joints. The last one blew half way up the Cajon Pass. I was doing 60 towing my fiver and a 12 ft enclosed and then the EGT's hit the red zone and the smoke was as black as could be. I had to finish the rest of the way doing about 30 and getting passed by Dodges and Chevys, how embarassing. There was no turning off - no shoulder and it really sucks climbing a hill without a turbo. When the hose blew off it made a loud whoosh and of course I lost all my precious boost.
After the big hill I really poured on the super glue and all seemed well for the rest of the trip. I was doing fine, but still babying the truck. I was carefully listening to make sure I didn't blow off the hose again and that is when I noticed the sound. It sounded like a blowoff valve in bewteen shifts, I thought at first I lost the hose again, but the super gloue did its job. Any clue as to what this noise might be, is it surge?

Is it just the turbine spinning down? If you're pulling and making high boost numbers you would here it more. Since I have a gutted EBPV it is extremely pronounced when making big boost. Exactly like you say, obviously we don't have BOV and don't need em, but somewhat similar noise...

I was towing my racecar when I blew off an intercooler hose with a big bang. I didn't snap immediately to what had happened and about crapped my pants.
About crapped your pants, I think I actually did when mine blew off, sounded like my .45 going off popped off right around 20 lbs, I was really in it. Sad to say I almost puked. It scared me and I aint scared of nothin!
anyways my best guess is the same as johndeeres, turbo spoolin down.

nope it compressor stall that you hear, mine sounds just like a blow-off valve at 25psi, it is not good for the turbo either but sounds cool. What happens is the air is rushing into teh heads at a high rpm then you shift teh rpm drops but the air is still going like hell so it hits a wall adn backs up to the turbo and stalls out teh compressor blades till teh rpm adn your demand for intake air increases
