What is the progression in clutch holding power?

If I understand the basics from reading the archive posts, clutch increase in holding power as follows:

1) Standard LUK
2) SBC Con-O
3) SBC Con-OFE

Where does the LUK Ceramic fit in there? Where do the ValAirs fit in the line up?

I am finding the standard LUK isn't quite enough for towing with 130cc's.

TIA!

God Bless,

TC

I cannot answer your question but would suggest you contact vendors who supply them and ask for HP / TORQUE ratings for all you are interested in.

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

Thanks Believer!

I have been reading up on the ValAir and its criticism. Still seems like a decent company and product...

Thanks and I'll keep looking!

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

I believe the Luk Ceramic is refered to as the Con-FE and is the top holding power clutch of the three. Very touchy and not terribly fun to drive.

Go Kevlar!

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

I did some research between Val Air and Southbend. I ended up spending the extra cash on a Southbend Con OFE set up. I just couldn't stand worrying about it anymore.

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

Hey Kurt!

When you say "worrying about it," are you refering to wondering if all the criticism of ValAir is really true?

I'm not sure how much weight to put on some of the things that were said... seems there are alot who like them too...?

Craig and others: It does seem like it would be hard to go wrong with the Con OFE, doesn't it?

I noticed a significant conflict between SBC and Swamp regarding the holding power of the Con O.... Swamp, who uses a lot of the SBC stuff with his injectors doesn't give the Con O as much credit as SBC does. I think I have power in the 250-280 hp range and know the standard Luk isn't cutting it. According to Swamp, I am in the range of the Con OFE, yet SBC suggests the Con O would be sufficient?

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

spend the extra money casue it will last thta much longer and most likely be cheaper in the long run becasue it would last 6months to a year longer, and as I know you'll be keepign that truck or sellign it to me I would like to see the best go into it

Re: What is the progression in clutch holding power?

TimC63,

There have been several posts about the clutch slipping due to a mismatch between the master cylinder pushrod eye and the crankarm on the pedal shaft. Not saying you have this particular problem, but it's something that could warrant a closer look.

Thanks Bill,

I'll take a look but I believe those parts are original. Never hurts to check!
