what tire/wheel combo could I go with to not suffer in the looks department. (35'' right now)
I have 13/12.5/16.5 tires on my truck. Love the way they look and want to keep them, over the winter, however, I am thinking of getting new set of tires and wheels, I want something that is decent looking, and will not take away from the truck with the lift and all. What would my options be as far as offset (backspacing?) etc...

I don't know now, Just found BFgoodrich AT tires for me current wheels, installed, and balanced, and taxed for $810.00. At any rate the reason I was asking about new wheels was, like ya said, to get rid of the 16.5's but the other reason was that I was thinking of going to a thinner tire for performance, but I still want to keep the look of the truck. (in other words, want the tire to be outside of the body about 1'') I do have bushwhacker flares

Pro comps have a 3buy get 4 right now and IHO are Much better that Bf's. I have run 3 sets of BF's and now would't touch em. Get some Wheels like the ones I run, 140.00+- and your set. 16.5" are UNSAFE.

I think procomps are junk...loud, dont balance, wear is bad...all around not impressed with two sets I had (A/Ts) went back to BFGs this time and I am still rolling on then at about 60k miles, should go 65-70k. The BFG is VERY quite, great traction on everything I have throw at it, stiffer sidewall (compared to the ballooning sidewalls I had on the ProComps) & a long tread life.
Everybody has their own experiences though, so thats just my .02 ... Obviously Cary has had a different experience with em
Re: what tire/wheel combo could I go with to not suffer in the looks department. (35'' right now)
yep, I've blown a 16.5 tire off the rim when I was four-wheeling many many years ago. (and like an idiot, I didn't have a spare. Middle of the night, and when I returned to the truck somebody had vandalized it big-time. Major bummer)
Not to mention the "nimrod factor" when you buy tires, and some dimwit tries to mount a 16" tire on your 16.5 inch rim.

Re: what tire/wheel combo could I go with to not suffer in the looks department. (35'' right now)
Possible and very dangerous. I have seen a brand new 16' tire blown out by mounting on 16.5 rim. All .5 rims have tapered beads. When a 16' tire is mounted, it acts a a wedge putting more and more pressure on the cables inside of the bead. When the cable lets go the sidewall goes and and the tire comes off that side of the rim with an explosion. VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!
I still have 16.5's on the 91, have had them on other trucks over the years. I wouldn't go crazy to get rid of them. They will come off the bead easy in a run low or blowout situation. But not a crisis to get rid of them.

Re: what tire/wheel combo could I go with to not suffer in the looks department. (35'' right now)
Yep we all have different experiences with stuff. When I was running BFGs I would usually have to replace them because the rubber would start to look really old and cracked. 40,000 on a set was easy. Good sidewalls and quiet. The Pro-Comps were junk and made my truck feel flimsy. The noise was stupid and they wore way too fast. Jury is still out on my SSRs. They are wearing ok and the sidewall is nice and firm for towing. But they are loud. I have had the same set of Weld 16.5s on my truck since the first week it left the lot. Never a problem. My truck takes a lot of abuse on the trails and in the desert. Not to mention some of the crappy roads around here. The load rating on a 17 vs 16.5 is 300 to 400 pounds less for the 17 on a 35" tire. That alone for me would be enough to stay with 16.5s. The bigger diameter the wheel, the less load a similarly sized diameter tire can handle.
Tire/Wheel Size Max Load/PSI
35x12.50R16.5/D 3415@50
35x12.50R17/D 3000@50
35x12.50R18/D 2910@50
Since I am towing some heavy stuff as of lately, that was one of the main reasons I went with SSRs
So depending on what you are doing, it's the 17 and 18 wheel that is unsafe.

Thant's funny. I was just comeing back here to mention the Goodyear MTRs. I forgot all about them yesterday. I was just looking at my friends MTRs. He has a ton of miles on them, 30,000+, and they look great. Definately a good tire. Everyone I know that runs them loves them. If I ever get rid of my 16.5s I will go with the MTRs. That will be an expensive day I'm not looking forward to.

1 thing...SSR's have very week sidewalls...rock guys hate em, but not MTR's
Also 35" mtr's will wear good but I am not sure about the 37's..at least the 17" ones. I got them on the EB and the treads are gum soft perfect for rocks.
