Where is the power at?

I am fed up with my truck. I have a 97 f-250 4 door 4x4 with a 4" lift and 125,000 miles. I have put in the down pipe, exhaust, air intake, and a 6 position chip. I have a 32' 5th wheel trailer that weighs about 10,000 pounds full, and I can't pull it past 50mph on a flat surface. As soon as I hit a little incline it starts slowing from there. I have friends with f-150's pulling 25' trailers that have no problem running 55mph up hills. I run my chip at the third setting which is the first hp bump setting and I get almost 20lbs of boost max. Before I did the mods I was only getting 10lbs of boost. My motor is louder than most and I don't know if that makes any difference? Does anyone have any suggestions or is this all normal? Any help would be great. Thanks, Dan

Re: Where is the power at?

thats alot of weight and your lift prob doesnt help anything either. What gearing do you have? Sounds like its time for a set of small injectors and an intercooler.

Re: Where is the power at?

That isn't that much weight and the lift means nothing but the tire size could. How high is that Fiver, like a parchute and 6ft above cab or a lower profile? I hauled weight before and didn't have issues with slight mods.

Out...

Re: Where is the power at?

There is something wrong somewhere. What size are your tires? I have a 95 and pull a 11k+ pull trailer and can do much better than that. I just switched from 285s to 265s and the difference is night and day on the hills.

Re: Where is the power at?

I would say it is a high profile trailer that sticks up about 5ft. over the truck and my tires are 315's. Before I put on the lift and the tires is still seemed kinda gutless. The mods helped, mainly the chip but the exhaust and intake didn't do much. It's an auto also. Thanks, Dan

Re: Where is the power at?

I am I real frustrated. I have so much money in this truck to get it where I thought it needed to be and it isn't there. I am wondering about my turbo and injectors. It just takes forever for the turbo to spool up and hit 20psi of boost, and like I said the motor is real loud and someone told me that's the injectors. I love my truck but I am getting real close to selling.

Re: Where is the power at?

have you done a buzz test and / or cylinder contribution test?

you should before making any drastic decisions....

if you have good oil pressure and good fuel pressure, your ebpv is not stuck partially closed, and your transmission / torque converter are in good condition (if your converter is worn out you could be loosing a lot of power there)

I would seriuosly suspect your injectors.

Re: Where is the power at?

First of all, what chip are you running? What hp increase is the 3rd setting? Have you tried towing in the 4th setting?

Check your uppipes for leaks, and exhaust manifolds. If you have preturbo exhaust leaks it will murder boost.

It does sound like there is something that aint quite according to Hoyle, as you should be making more power.

You need to get a fuel guage on it and see what your psi is when your towing, not just at idle.

When was the last time you changed fuel filter? Cleaned the regulator screen?

Unplug the Map sensor and take it out for a run and see what kind of boost you make then.

Also have you gutted the ebpv? If its partially closed it will kill performance as well.

Pull the intake and check your turbo out, see how much play is in the shaft and what kind of condition the fins on the wheel are in.

Re: Where is the power at?

I have the same truck, but with custom injectors, towing is no issue what so ever, your air flow is messed up, check teh above list.

Re: Where is the power at?

My fuel filter has 5k miles on it. I haven't done the screen thing that you are talking about. Is there any good directions on how to do that? How is boost supposed to look on the gauge? Mine doesn't come up unless I got my foot in it. I can drive around normal and not get on it and maybe hit 4lbs. And when I do have my foot in it it gradually goes up as I get into the 2200rpm range. Is that normal? I really appreciate all the help you guys are giving. Thanks, Dan

Re: Where is the power at?

I forgot my my chip is the t5 6position chip 3rd setting is 50hp, 4th is 75, 5th is 100, and 6th is 140hp. I tried towing in 75hp mode and it didn't seem to make a difference.
