A whole lota whistle

Has any one else got'n a lot of whistle from a turbo with a 1.00 turbine and wicked wheel?

When I rebuilt the turbo I added a 1.00 turbine housing and a wicked wheel. Diamond eye DP and the pipe I can't say the name of. I Kept the stock Muff and tail pipe.

Re: A whole lota whistle

Why did you go with the wicked wheel? The stock 94-97 compressor wheel is already the "wicked wheel" Just curious. Glad to hear the whistle increased....I've got a 1.0 housing sitting on my work bench right now.

Re: A whole lota whistle

I added an ATS .95 housing to my 96. With the 5" straight pipe it actually kinda made me say uncle as far as the whistle goes. Whew. Just towed 1,000 miles or so and couln't hear it with the windows up though. But next to a wall at low rpm...wow. And at about 2300 rpm or so under hard accel the rumble and the whistle come together for something almost as exciting as sex. The wife blew by me in it the other day and I dont know which was more exciting, a girl in a hot rod powerstroke or the sound of the exhaust.

Re: A whole lota whistle

Did you check the clearance around the downpipe? If it touches the firewall then there is a lot of direct conduction of turbo noise to the cab.

Re: A whole lota whistle

I made lots of room for the down pipe. I used a 10 ton porta power with the duck bill and pressed it out as far as it would go. Made Lots of room.

Re: A whole lota whistle

by going with a smaller housing would you be loosing power overall though....how does that effect it and at what kinda rpms would you say your stock turbo spooled compared to the new housing? Also is there anything else that you did to the turbo or did you just do the housing?

When my first turbo went out, I found out that it didn't have the stock wheel. It looked like the wheel off of a stock SD.
