My truck is extreamly loud and i just dont know why. I ran 3/8 SS tube from fuel tanks to motor eliminating all quick disconnects. Both fuel tanks have same 3/8 SS pick up tubes with the return lines as far from pick up tube as possible. DIY stage 1 injectors made it a little quiter but not much. TW chip made it much worse and now it just drives me crazy. I spent a small fortune on dynamatt and extra insulation under the carpet with no difference. Truck runs great and has always been stronger then most other 7.3s i have driven. Motor has about 233k miles. Any ideas???

If the chip makes it worse, call Tony and see if he can do some different programming for you. Also check for exhaust leaks on the uppipes and manifolds. Also check your shifter boot and/or boots to see if they are torn or dry rotted in any way. They can let in a bunch of noise.

Is it a 95? They seem to be louder than '96 and '97's
Cary
I believe it was the 94 and 95's that had the single layer valve covers. The 96 and 97's have the double layer with the sound damper.

The motor is a 96, tell me more about the double layer valve covers. I have had the covers off of my motor and my frinds 97 and noticed no difference. I dont know if his 97 has the split shots but it is hard to tell its even a diesel. His truck sounds more like a new Duramax its so quiet. I even installed rubber sheilds inside the wheel wells by the shocks to try and help keep some of the noise inside the engine compartment.
Your truck should have double layer covers. Way to check would be to take them off, they have a thud sound when you hit them. The single layers just metal so they sound much like and piece of metal with no sound deadening.

My truck is extreamly loud and i just dont know why.
So many of us spend good money to achieve such a goal.
Get a bicycle or turn up your radio.
My exhaust is definitely a head turner...and I'm proud of every last decibel.

Lets put it this way, the motor is so loud you cant here the exhaust. To me that is not cool at all. Im going to add underhood insulation, a return fuel system with electric fuel pump, and run biodiesel. That should quiet it down alittle.
For the 97 MY the block was cast thicker in certain places to assist with absorbing noise. I think the break was at engine #357*** and up. Although slight, I can definately hear the difference between my 97 and earlier trucks. If your truck is missing the factory underhood insulation, it will make a huge difference when installed.
Cheers.

My truck was gas and i converted it to PSD. It never had underhood, fender, or firewall insulation. I have bought most of the insulation i need from a diesel truck and started installing it with no change. The hood is the last peice I need and from what i read it makes little to no difference.
Do you notice it more while you are driving the truck or when it is just sitting there idling and you are standing outside of it? I am still thinking you may be able to cure some of it with chip programming. Give Tony a call and ask him.

Idle noise is pretty close to stock, but right after light throttle it gets very loud. It sounds like he changed the timming and maybe pump pressure. Thing is its like a switch goes from quiet to high pitch diesel knock. All 6 tunes are the same. I will talk to TW soon about other issues with my tunes.
