You'll think i'm crazy but, my 97 was getting louder and louder then my torque converter went south. I talked to brians truck shop, and they told me to replace it with a 2002 7.3 stock ford converter. WOW What a difference, and my truck is so much quieter that my wife doesn't mind the noise anymore. Just my 2 cents

Truck dosent have the marbles in a can sound like a TC usally makes. Tranny only has about 10k miles on it with a 3 clutch TC. I still need to add the factory fender insulation and hood insulation and hope it makes more of a difference then people say.

I just got a five position chip from TW. The economy position is twice as loud as any other. It must have more advanced timing there.

Take a look at your shifter boots. They could be loose or broken.

I also put pink insulation in mine and it makes a world of difference. Mine is close to my fathers 03 Dodge in quiet now.

Downpipe is tight but not hitting anything, Uppipes and gaskets are all new and no leaks. 4/4 shifter boot i think could use replacment its not torn but i think the inner and outer section seperated. Anyone in Allentown PA area with a OBS with a 5th wheel hitch???? Would love to pull my camper with a different truck and compair noise/power.

It wouldn't have split shots unless he put them in aftermarket, and almost no one does. The stock HPOP doesn't handle them well.

I even installed rubber sheilds inside the wheel wells by the shocks to try and help keep some of the noise inside the engine compartment.

I haven't been driving the truck much so the noise isent really an issue. I did talk to TW about the chip and the new tunes are much quiter also less power and MPG. I think im going to buy some 1'' closed cell foam and put it under the hood. Seems like alot of the noise is coming from the hood and threw the windsheild. This winter i might pull the dash and see what can be done to the firewall.

When i did the diesel conversion and while the motor was out i checked manifolds and installed all new uppipes. No exhaust leaks on this motor.
