Wife says THAT'S IT!....................................

I'M TIRED OF ALL THESE DA__ SUPERDOODIES THAT ARE TALLER THAN MY TRUCK! I can pass most of em, but they are still taller than me! I WANT MY TRUCK LIFTED! Ain't that the most beautiful *****en you heard lately? Guess I better take advantage of the situation huh?
It has been the plan all along to put a RSK on it. Since Cary educated me, I'll be using 2004 SD front springs (thanks Dutchman!). Got that all down. The real question is what to do with the rear. The way I see it there are 3 basic ways to do it:

6 inch blocks under the stock 3 leaf springs. Advantage, cheap and simple. Dis: wheel hop, and all the things that are negative about blocks. Plus I really want to put on new springs, they are actually worn pretty bad. I can always add air bags if needed. I could use new stock SD rear springs.

Sky rear shackle flip. Advantage, inexpensive. Dis: concerned about the taper block needed to reset the pinion angle back to stock. Also there have been cautions about the shackles folding under side load.....ohh not too pretty with the camper on. Some have used F450 shackles to solve this, ones could be fabbed too.

Replacement lift springs W/O blocks: Briansshop did this- very clean. The most expensive, but the cleanest. I would lean to using Donahoe multileaf SD rear springs for the ride. Probably the best ride set up but what about hauling / towing. Air bags would be needed at least.

One last thing, this truck must be the swiss army knife of trucks. It must be able to haul 2,000 lbs in the bed, haul a cabover camper, and pull any trailer I come across. I need it to be reliable enough to drive the Alcan to Alaska, and I don't want it so unique that I cant fix it away from home. I'm the type to have / carry spares and rebuild things before they break.

What do you think?

Re: Wife says THAT'S IT!....................................

I have the SKY man rsk on my truck. I really like it. I did not go with the sd springs, but it does still ride a little better due to the better placing of the shackles. The sd springs do ride even better I hear. I have the regular F-350 blocks on the rear of my truck now along with an addaleaf. It rides exactly level. About a 3" lift in front with around 1.5 to 2 inches in the rear. I tow and haul more then most would dream about and aside from needing an intercooler (thanks Swamp) the truck handles it all very well.

I also have the Sky kit. Cheaper and IMO, a better product. Made in Oregon state. Figure about 3.5 inches of lift.

Funny, my wife wants my 350 lifted too, but my fifth wheel won't like it.

Re: Wife says THAT'S IT!....................................

I wouldn't put blocks in it, i have 6 total inches of blocks and had really bad wheel hop before i put traction bars on it, i'm going with new leaf springs, as soon as i get my D60.

Re: Wife says THAT'S IT!....................................

Hey G_M, I talked to Sky about their REAR shackle flip and was told they were making some stronger shackels to go w/it. It looks like a nice kit but,was going to put the hanger & shackle right where my 5" tailpipe is. Just didn't feel like a more exhaust work! Either way you loose your overloads so prob need airbags to haul some weight.I had some when my truck was low and used to tow a 32' tag and one time hauled 40! sheets of 1/2" 4'x12' drywall in the bed.Was a little hard on the tail gate but the bags worked great.

How high are you going? And tires?

Brian

Re: Wife says THAT'S IT!....................................

I did the SKY 3" rsk on the front of my 95 F350 CC, and like you, didn't want to stack blocks on the rear. I like the way the front rides and handles, so that was good.
I found a set of Superlift 4" rear springs; 6 leaves and heavy as lead. I put them on and found a pair of 2" flat blocks to level out the truck, and it looks great. I was concerned about load carrying also, but tested it with a ton (literally) of salt blocks for the ranch. No problems with either sagging or squatting suspension, and have since hauled several pickups on a 20' tongue pull car hauler with no problems at all. Rides better than stock empty or loaded.
The 2" flat blocks are stock on a 1990 F250 4x4, 8600 GVW, and I had to make a 1/4" spacer for the carrier bearing.
Hope this helps.
Jimbo

Oh, tires are 315/70R16 BFG MudTerrains
