Will the 1.o housing make a difference in stock mode?

Just wondering as I am getting ready to mount up my 1.0 housing (thanks Tom S). Main reason I went with this option was to help with smoke at the low/mid range considering I run 3.55 gears with 35" tires, so I need a quicker spool up anyway. It would be great if I could run in my stock program position around town (no smoke) if the 1.0 housing would help with my off-the-line "oomph." I realize it should make a difference, but I was wondering if it is noticable with stock programming.

Most people say that you should stay with the 1.15 housing if you run bigger squirters. Mine seems fine with my injectors, not much lag. Good luck.

Kind of funny you should say that. The guys going for power upgrades seem to be swapping over to the D66 or the SD turbo set up and getting either a GT38R or a TN BB. All of those have a 1.0 housing. I ran B code injectors on a D66 turbo that has a 1.0 turbo housing(same turbo as OBS) with no EGT issues. So I think the high EGT issues you are talking about have to do with tuning.

Re: Will the 1.o housing make a difference in stock mode?

The GTP-38s are larger than the stock TP-38s the OBS uses. So even if the ratio is the same the exhaust side is actually larger. I think the D66 has a reworked exhaust side housing, doesn't this enlarge it? The larger 1.0 exhaust housings will have less restriction than the 1.0 stock type housing. The 1.0 will spoolup faster than the 1.15 stocker. I've tried both, even with the stage II injectors I currently have. I don't think there is much of a top end power loss either. Most of the posters who claimed the 1.0 cuts down top end power have never made as much power as my truck has. Good EGTs is more of a matter of good chip tuning.

Dave,

I have been saying that for years. But, everybody always says it will.

I guess the ones like us that have done it, don't know what we are talking about!

Re: Will the 1.o housing make a difference in stock mode?

I love my .95 housing. I tried going back to the 1.15 and couldn't stand it. I switched right back and with my waste gate disconnected right now egt's aren't a problem cause I reaching full boost.

Re: Will the 1.o housing make a difference in stock mode?

The D66 I have has a 1.0 ATS exhaust housing. I don't know if the ATS is a stock or reworked configuration.

Re: Will the 1.o housing make a difference in stock mode?

As I recall from the first postings about the D66, it had a reworked exhaust housing. If not, they are managing to push an awful lot of air on the compressor side and, I assume, a lot more exhaust gas without excessive exhaust backpressure or creaming the turbo bearings because of high side thrust. Wasting the turbo bearings was the major original objection to using stage II injectors with the 1.0 OBS housing for reasons stated above. Having said that, I have no idea why my turbo lasted as long as it did.
