Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Was looking on eBay for an intercooler. Will any year work?

Thank you,

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Jeff, since your truck is 4x2 the 6.0 intercooler will hit the sway bar. I dropped mine 4 inches to make it fit, everything else fit great.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Any 7.3 SD (like 99-03) intercooler will fit with say, the GTS pipe kit (this is what I got). If using the stock SD pipes I think they require a little fabbing. If using the 6.0 (03-up) intercooler the GTS pipes or stock SD pipes will require some fabbing... or so I hear.

The 6.0 intercooler I don't think has seen enough installations with the GTS kit though to say that for sure.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Really?

I swear I heard a couple quick fabs to his pipes were needed?

I guess it makes sense, if Ford upgrades their IC and if they have room for a larger cooler, keep the pipes the same.

Dang, if I'da known I'da gotten a 6.uhoh intercooler.

edit: I still can my IC is still sitting on my desk!

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

The stock SD pipes need a lot of work to fit without rubbing on a ton of stuff. You can do it easiely by lengthening them by about 3" in the middle but then you end up with a 3/4" hole in one like I did way back when I first did my IC. I guess that was incentive to do something a little different! I haven't personally installed a 6.0L cooler with a kit yet but from what I've been hearing all you need is one different coupler.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Oh thats right, i forgot about that coupler. Its a stock 6oh coupler and i got rapped for over 50 bucks at ford. If i recall it takes the 3.25" ic outlet to 3" so it will mate up w/ ic pipe.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Hey Luke,

Which kit did you get from GTS Motorsports for your 6.slow cooler? There are a few of them.

Thank you.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

the pipes are the same in the kits.the spider just works with a stock turbo. you have to fine one coupler to make the 6.0 IC work that doesn't come in the kit.

Re: Will any year IC work on our trucks?

Are any of the 6L intercoolers all aluminum, or do they all have the plastic sides?
