Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
I am planing on replacing the turbo and installing a Tymar intake on my truck and have some questions. I still have the stock orange boot on the turbo inlet and figure I had better replace it while I have it out. I did a search and see that I will need to get either the updated ford parts or go with a replacement boot from intakehoses.com. I have future plans for an intercooler and don't want to have to replace the turbo inlet pieces twice. So, I am wondering which turbo inlet update parts will work best with a future intercooler? Or doesn't it matter. Then, what about the orange boots on the y-pipe after the turbo? Do these typically need to be replaced? I couldn't find any info on them.
Thanks,
Shawn

It should not matter going into the turbo. It is what is done when the air comes out of the turbo that matters.
Turbo guru's correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
Intercooler doesn't affect the air cleaner to turbo connection unless you build something wierd that ends up in the way of the intercooler tube. Just look at the many IC install pics. If you plan to do the crankcase vent mod as well, get the black boot from Ford without the kit. (see Joats list for part #) This will eleminate the cast aluminum CV adaptor, just use 4" exhaust pipe. Nothing wrong with the silicone replacement either, it keeps the cast aluminium adaptor.

Re: Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
Yes, my main concern is real estate. I want to make sure the turbo inlet does not get in the way of the turbo outlet going to the intercooler.
I plan on building a catch can for the CCV when I do the turbo, but I want to route it back to the intake in the stock location. None of the intercooler setup pics I found had the CCV still routed to the intake.

There will be no problems if you are using a Tymar with the intercooler, unless if doing something custom with the filter.
If you want to reroute the ccv(I did that on mine with IC and catch can) then just get the complete updated kit. The updated hose does not work with the original cast piece.
Re: Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
If I use the updated intake hose from intakehoses.com with my existing aluminum intake piece, will the bracket that attaches the intake to the valve cover be in the way of the IC tubing? I can't tell what you are doing from the pictures. The pic below shows the bracket I'm talking about.
Re: Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
When I originally installed my Banks intercooler, the stock aluminum intake elbow and orange turbo inlet hose were still installed. I had no fit issues, same clearance as the updated black hose and plastic elbow.
Cheers...

Re: Will Tymar intake work with intercooler? And orange boot question.
Thanks Guys. What about the two orange boots on the y-pipe after the turbo? Do these typically need to be replaced? I want to make sure I get everything done that needs doing, since I have it apart.
Thanks,
Shawn
