You guys with E4OD's. How does the plumbing run for your tranny coolers?

Setting up a cooler for my ZF. I'm wondering how and where the cooler lines run from your tranny up to the cooler in front? And then where they run on the return as well. Also, are the lines a braided flexible line or are they a solid stiff type line? I'm also installing a pump somewhere on the frame rail that will move the fluid. Does it make more sense to use the pump to push fluid into the tranny? This would run cooler fluid through the pump which might be better for it. Or should I set up the pump to pull fluid from the tranny? It would be pumping hotter fluid, but it wouldn't be as restrictive? Not sure which way to go here. Thanks, Nick.

Out of the tranny into the radiator, out of the radiator into the aux air cooler, then back to the tranny. Diagram of routing and flow

I didn't realize that you're coolers went through the radiator. That must help alot. Hope I got a big enough cooler since I will not be routing through the radiator. I'm going to use a Mocal pump. Mocal Pump That is a good suggestion putting in a filter. Placing it on the outgoing line make sense? I bought a Tru-Cool LPD4588, and I hope it will be big enough to do anything. Nick.

Ouch, that pumps a little high. I have been wanting to build a set up for my own as well. It won't take much cooler to do it, there is only 3.5 quarts plus the cooler, lines and pump to cool.

If you think that pump is high, you should see how much the Weldon 9200A is! I think the Tilton Engineering equivalent is about in the same range as the Mocal. Those are about the only three pumps that I've found for using on a 5-speed. Cheers!

Patrick is right. I was quoted $390 for it. I'm sure it is a better pump, but I can buy two of the other for the same price.

Re: You guys with E4OD's. How does the plumbing run for your tranny coolers?

I'd put your pump pulling from the tranny & pumping through the cooler, this will give less restrictions to the pump and reduce the chance of running the pump "dry" b/c it's working to hard to pull the fluid.

With the radiator cooler in, factory air cooler in, and single 1679 Hayden after the factory air cooler, I could hit 180.

I ditched the radiator cooler, and the factory air cooler, and added a second Hayden 1679 in parallel with the first (fluid runs half speed through each). Most I've seen is "almost" 150. I also have a Magnefine feeding into these.

More I think about it, though, I will probably put these in series. If one stops up now, then I'll lose its capacity but the other one will still be free to work. I'd rather have both of them with fluid forced through them instead of having unregulated passage through each one. This should keep 'em cleared out better and will let me know if I develop a problem within one, then I can fix it.

Re: You guys with E4OD's. How does the plumbing run for your tranny coolers?

Well, my tranny will run up to 210-220 without a cooler on a hot day. I'm hoping that just running it through a cooler will drop me 20 degrees or so, but I may be asking too much.
