06 grille in a 91 crewcab - PICS

I have a 2000 Superduty and did the 06 conversion on mine. Initially, I had the black XL grille, but came across a chrome one and swapped.

Well, we had a Tech day yesterday just south of Portland, OR and one of our club trucks is a 91 crewcab with a 6.0 intercooler and ATS turbo.

He was in the process of changing his headlights for newer ones that werent all chipped up and I held the black 06 grille up to the opening, and with a little saw-z-all work, it should fit.

Well, I chopped up the grille and sure enough, it fits!

Its a little rough around the edges, and needs cleaned up with something a little more detailed than a saw-z-all, but you get the idea. He likes it, and everyone else liked it too.

Re: 06 grille in a 91 crewcab - PICS

None at all but I have a lot of cutting tools. Seriously though it wasn't too bad to install, had to trim the radiator mounts and I welded up some mounts on the front of the core support to hang it. I have a ton of pics somewhere on a memcard that is missing, when we find it I will make up a BIG tech article.

How much do 6.0 intercoolers cost alone?

Re: 06 grille in a 91 crewcab - PICS

I would appreciate that. Sounds like the 6.0 cooler is easier than the 99 up conversion.

Re: 06 grille in a 91 crewcab - PICS

Do you notice more turbo lag now that pressure and volume have been altered by the increased air space of such a big intercooler? Did you have to crank your wastegate up?

Re: 06 grille in a 91 crewcab - PICS

I built the engine and IC stuff all at once so I dont have a before and after. some day I may put just the hat on the intake and see what the boost is. It runs 10 psi max now and I have adjusted the WG to reach that, plenty of power.

I got the IC off ebay for 140 plus shipping, used from a banks upgrade
