1356 Transfer Case Problems

My transfer case ran low on oil, I don't know where it went it wasn't leaking, and is dead. All I have is 4-low and metal came out with the trans fluid when I drained it. I haven't got it out yet and have never had one of these apart before so I don't know what to expect. Does anyone have a good source for parts and or a rebuilt case?

Thanks

Bob

Re: 1356 Transfer Case Problems

go to www.car-part.com or go on ebay and buy a good used one--the oil pump in yours sounds like it failed--and youll spend a chunk fixing it--or--find a good one locally

Re: 1356 Transfer Case Problems

Personally I'd look for a good used T-case. They aren't THAT complex inside, but you can get into a lot of time and money trying to find all the bad parts.

Re: 1356 Transfer Case Problems

I had same problem. I rebuilt it with no problems and was very simply to do. 130.00 for parts and 3 hours total time including removal and install. Most important thing is make sure it is completely clean before installing all of those new parts. Good luck

Re: 1356 Transfer Case Problems

I've blown mine a few times.....There used to be a shop in San Jose that did great work on t-cases and trannys but as I found the other day when my brother tried to take my tranny to him they were out of business....owner retired......There is a great place for parts in San Luis Obispo.....very helpfull and I believe they will ship parts...Its either American or US Gear (which ever one isn't that big national manufacturer) Good luck on the T-case

Re: 1356 Transfer Case Problems

I took it out and apart and it's not as bad as it could be. The pumps wasted the pump retainer is bent and the reduction fork and hub need to be replaced so that's not to bad. Now I just need to find the parts. It's suprising how simple it is.
