i can get a great deal, like $45 each, on batteries with 700 cca each and the store says that they are good for my truck and they are the right size but is that enough power. i live in central california so it realy isnt likely to ever be colder that 30*.

I wouldn't go that low, and I live in BAJA. If for ANY reason you need to crank the engine more than once those batteries will go belly-up in a hurry and the guy who sold them to you will do the 'not MY problem '. Baja
im running 1,000 cca on each battery and if need be i can crank the motor on one battery. These batteries will crank the motor for atleast 2 1/2 min. trust me i know!

Removed soup bowl and drilled holes in air intake.
Do you have AAA to get a tow to the closest Azone store for a new Starter.... Low cranking power burns them up first.
Get 2.... 850 CCA minimum batteries.

I just replaced my 700cca batteries with a pair of 850 CCA batteries from Sam's club. Best move I ever made. The truck ALWAYS starts now and does not take very long to do it. Before if it did not start after the first few seconds you might as well forget it. I think the glow plugs draw like 80 amps then you have to start an engine with twice the compression of a gasser. Battery cables can ruin your day also if they are corroded. The Sam's batteries were like $50 each.

Perry,
Right on, your sense of good judgement is dead "on center".

At this price you can afford to replace every 24 months,

That assumes you are near a Walmart and it's no hassle to get them.
Baja Gringo probably has some stories about getting stuck with no batteries and no Walmart anywhere near. Note, I am not saying that
the Walmart batteries will last any less time than the others, just that sometimes buying for longevity might outweigh cost.

In my area Sams and Walmart have no apparent relation.
It would never cross my mind to go to Walmart with batteries purchased at Sams.
Locating a Series 65 (for best physical fit), with over 850CCA, at a competitive price, is next to impossible. Optima is not price competitive, Sears is way overpriced.
Excide and Interstate are competitive, but Interstate is sold by independants, making them priced at about $90.
A pair of 850CCA's, with a good starter, is my choice for winter starts, in Minnesota.
Why those in Florida, Mexico & California need more, I can not explain!

I've liked the Optima and now the Exide Orbital for a couple of good reasons. When I lived 'up there', I used the Optimas in my Jeep to keep my Jeep from being eaten alive by battery acid when bouncing around(and 1 roll-over) off-road. Also a regular batteries lead plates don't stay where they belong under those conditions. And now, down here in Mexico where it's dry and hot and bumpy/rocky roads, and I don't hafta keep checking the battery for water. Also, when the occasional need to pull the batteries out, I don't get the "Holey, Sunday-go to-meetin' Jeans" Baja
