89 f 350 has developed unbearable Death wobble at @40 mph. Can anybody give me the rundown on what is most likely the problem, the parts, parts cost, some quick do's and dont's .
thnks, remote
Check the complete front end for worn steering parts..........loose wheel bearings etc.
Cost can be up there.......depends on what you find and if your doing the repairs.
Thank your lucky stars you do NOT own a newer style Dodge 4x4 pickup....... on average the cost of front end rebuilds we see is around $2500.....

My 89 has the same problem so while I was having the ignition switch fixed had them look at it. Mechanic said it needed a track bar kit. $148.00 installed.

Death Wobble Solved for $40.00. After having wheels balanced for $20.00 at tire shop and tire shop guys look over tie rods, checking wheel bearing play etc. and find nothing really that looked bad I drove down road and unlike before the death wobble happened when I hit the brakes in addition to trraveling forward at about 35 mph. I went strait from there to lineup shop and guy pulled me on rack and looked over same tie rod ends in front of axle that tire guys did. Same opinion about wheel bearings and rod ends, but this guy noticed something that both the tire guys and I had missed. Up behind the axle is a bar with bushings that anchor on a plate with 3 bolts. This plate is in front of and above the oil pan center the truck. The 3 bolts were loose causing everthing down the line to supect when they were the cause. After tightening 3 bolts we checked toe end and it was good. $40.00 solved nightmare death wobble.
Nice find and a cheap fix not all are that easy though.................
