1990 4x4 F350 7.3 Maybe buying,Help Please

Any suggestions what to look for.The person is asking 3200.00 Neg.
I think I can get him down to 2000-2500 cash.
It has a Banks Air cleaner system and a guage on the inside that says I think exhaust Temp near the middle of bottom of dash?(Don`t know a thing about this kind of system)
I looked underneath ...a little rust but the leaf spring brackets are ok.Engine doesn`t seem to leak...I can do the Rubber line changes and orings and glow plugs(if needed) and clean the injectors when I switch rear tank to bio.
The person has not used the rear fuel tank(metal) for a year.If something is wrong w/ it, how much to fix?
I drove it last night and it started great and no slips in Tranny...it pulled to the right a little...tires looked ok though...I asked him about it and he didn`t have anything to say. Then asked him about 4 wheel drive...he said the wheels were locked when I took it for a ride.Does that mean that it was in 4 wheel drive or do you have to have that shifter on the floor engaged also in sync w/ the locking hubs?Sorry, I never used this before...I have a 2003 Honda Element...easy mans 4x4...Thank You, Rob

Your Element probably has "all wheel drive" which is a different system....

On a true 4wd, the hubs lock the rotors to the front axle shafts, and the transfer case lever locks the front driveshaft with the rear driveshaft. Lots of people will just leave the hubs locked in the winter so if they need to use 4wd they just pull the transfer case lever. It doesn't hurt anything other than losing a little mileage from the extra mechanical drag.

You can't drive a truck in 4wd on hard, dry pavement since there is no differential in the middle. Yea people do but it's a hard drive and you risk damage.

Sounds like it may have a Turbo on it? What kind of cab does it have?
You should see that on top of the engine.
Was the truck warm when you got there? or cold?
Good power?
How does the trans fluid smell and what color is it? if it is bright red it may have been changed to cover up and issue
Check inside the radiator for oil, and check the oil for water. Check for SCA's.
How is the inside of the truck, Any rust other than what you listed?
If it is a std. cab with a turbo, I would start at 2000 and may come up to 2500 if I had to.

Even with the issues I have had I love mine.

Good luck
