Hey all, new to this site. Have a couple questions concerning the sending unit that is in a 90's style Diesel. My 90 was a 5.8L EFI and I put a Cummins Diesel in it........Runs awesome BTW. The Fuel pump and sending unit are one of the same unit that slides into the fuel tank. My question is; are the sending units on the diesels set up the same way or do the diesel units in these trucks have just a pickup line and the fuel gauge sending unit on them. I need to just have a pickup line in my truck tank, so the lift pump on the engine can do the "sucking". Right now it is doing that but has about 30psi pushing on it from the efi pump in the tank, and it does not like it. It would be easier to get a sending unit out of a 90's style diesel if they have just a pick up line rather then fab up my own pickup line because I have to keep the gauge sending unit in tack.
I hope that makes sense

Yes they do.......they have a diesel intank sender/pickup unit only. Check out LMCtruck they sell the tank units for my truck year.

You need the diesel style sender units, and the fuel lines will likely need replaced as well. I did the Cummins swap on a 92, and the fuel lines have the check vavle in the fuel lines to keep the fuel running to the right tank for return. Once you take the pumps out, the fuel lines won't work right for your needs. I took the lines from an 86 to get it right, so you at least have a few years to pick from. I was able to make the senders from the 86 work as well, but it took some messing around, as the tabs were a little different, and the senders have different resistance.

I figured the diesel sender units would work. I do not have the check valves in my fuel lines though because when I am switched to the front tank the return line fills both tanks. I have a part number for a fuel valve though that I will plumb in though that should work.
Thanks for the help
