I'm considering selling my 1993 F350 XLT 1 ton dually 7.3 liter IDI with new Banks Sidewinder turbo added about 12,000 miles ago. Also installed the Banks transcommand and larger exhaust. I'm the second owner (I've had it about 3.5 years). It's an automatic, 4.10 rearend, extended cab. It's a 4x2. Coolant additive has been maintained its whole life. Original owner was a retired semi driver that used it to pull his sprint car a few times a year. The truck has never been driven in the snow. Exterior, interior and drivetrain are excellent. Tires have about 10K on them. Brakes are good. Has a K&N filter. Red in color with red interior. Exterior has custom handpainted pinstripping that the original owner paid $1500 to have done. Power windows, locks and A/C work great. Cruise control needs a brake disconnect switch (that is the only issue with the truck). I bought this truck with only 72K miles on it. Now it has 101K miles on it. Most of the miles are highway miles. It has dual fuel tanks and a 100 gallon diamondplate transfer tank in the bed that is less than a year old. Batteries are 1 year old. New serpentine belt and tensioner within last 15K miles. Beru glowplugs installed at 88K miles. The bed has been spray lined in the past couple of years. Has electric brake controller and Reese 10,000 lb hitch. Has hookup in bed also for lights and brake controller. I bought it to pull my 7000 lb work trailer, but I find I'm only doing that about 4 times per year so I'm thinking about selling the Ford and using my old 92 Dodge to pull the trailer just to thin the herd. It's a beautiful truck and would serve someone well. For me it's almost too nice of a specimen truck to use as a work truck. I feel guilty driving it to an industrial site, which is why I bought the sacrificial 92 Dodge last year.
What do you figure the value is? I'm located northwest of Indianapolis. Call me at 765-532-5759 if you want to discuss.

Thanks for the kbb.com suggestion. I thought it might be useful to ask members on this site what their price experience has been for an older truck in excellent condition. I think my truck is a rare example of an unbused 13 year old heavy duty "work" truck, so I thought I would ask for a value question here. I'm at the very preliminary stages of considering a sale, but of course if the price is right...well you know the rest. Thanks for your suggestion.

IMO no value site (KBB, NADA) will accurately reflect the value of a truck like this since those sites (supposedly) go on average selling prices for similar models, not your outliers. For instance, a real beater pickup with obvious issues would go for less than KBB / NADA, and an extraordinarily well maintained truck such as this sounds would go for much more. Hard for me to place a value - it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay in a given timeframe - but I'd say that you might be able to get $6k-10k, entirely depending on the audience you are catering to. You have records, and if it's in good enough condition as you say, any other truck with similar mileage and wear would be model year 2000 or newer.
By the way, you might want to advertise in some of the heavy truck traders, trucktraderonline, this site, etc. I have also had some of my best luck by putting vehicles in high traffic areas (parking lots, etc). BUT this may not work for you since you are going to want to get a premium for all of the work and care you've put in your truck.

Thanks for replying. It's tough to put a good value on a truck like this because you don't see many in this condition. I searched the country for 3 months for this one before I bought it. I remember my neighbor flying me up to Michigan to look at it. He's a real car and airplane buff and a mechanical engineer that does all of his own maintenance. He looked at the truck with me and couldn't believe how nice it was. He said the blankin thing is pristine...if you don't buy it, you're an idiot! I could obviously tell it was the 1st owners pride and joy. He had covered the seats since he bought it new, so the seats were (and still are) like new. He showed me his records, preached coolant additives (which I already knew about), gave me an extra fuel filter and about started crying when I drove away. I've had it three years and it's been a great truck. I spent $3800 adding the banks turbo, exhaust system, transcommand and pillar guages. I recently sold my 38' travel trailer (that weighed 9500 lbs). I had that camper at a seasonal site, so I didn't pull it until I sold it, but this truck pulled it beautifully going 65 MPH down the interstate with one hand on the wheel (it's so stable).
Like I said in my earlier post, I feel guilty driving it into industrial sites (I do stack testing work), so I bought the old dodge to do most of that. I never drive the dually in the winter although I do start it up a few times a winter and take it for about a 5 to 10 mile drive if the roads are clear. The first owner did the same thing. There is no rust on the truck and the paint looks excellent for 13 years old. Now I find that I'm using the Ford very little and it doesn't deserve that. I also own two other vans and a nice 1988 Cadillac to use as daily drivers, so I need to thin the herd. I was thinking somewhere near $10,000 would be a good price, but of course I will have to find the right person that will appreciate the truck.
I'll try and post some pictures in the next few days.
Anybody interested can give me a call at 765-532-5759.
Thanks, Scott

As a comparison, I sold my 1991 F350 crew cab XLT, DRW, 7.3 IDI, E4OD, no mods except K&N, 95000 miles, used only for transportation to and from work and towing 5th wheel about 6 times a year. Excellent conditon for it's age. Price sold for was 8500, advertised for one day and sold. I had already installed a new pump, two new fuel tanks, water pump, glow plugs, injectors, alternator, vacuum pump, fuel lift pump, changed AC to 134 with new compressor. New owner had nothing to do except keep it waxed and vacuumed.
So your 91 did not have a turbo installed and you sold it for $8500. I figure my installed turbo, transcommand and new exhaust system and gauges is worth at least $2200 since it only has 12K miles on it. I talked to a local farmer in my area yesterday who is selling a similar truck to mine which is a year older and no turbo for $7500. He also didn't have a clue about coolant additives and his truck had 22K more miles than mine. Plus I've got a $600 diamond plate 1 year old transfer tank in the bed. Maybe $10,500 is a reasoanble price?

Sold my '93 4x2 CC dually in 2002 for $8,000. Had 180k miles but was in immaculate condition - no rust/scratches, light/infrequent towing, clean bed, new leather seats, etc. I kept records of all maintenance done on the truck and all fuel fills since new. Probably could have gotten another $1000 more for it if I had time to wait but was going overseas.

On trucks with this much age on them, you just have to wait until the right buyer comes along who can appreciate them. If you are in a hurry you are probably looking at 3 - 4 thousand less. Just depends on too many things. Good luck
