3" ATS Downpipe question

Ive got the upgraded downpipe and housing and I need to weld something on the downpipe before I get it all in the engine compartment Does anyone know which side slides into the outlet housing elbow. I dont want to weld the wrong ennd of the downpipe. There are three bends in it, the bracket that bolts to the engine is just above a bend is that the lower end of the pipe? Any info will help trying to get it welded today

thanks

You might PM Chuckster57 or look at his posts and pictures.
He has one and posted a picture of at least part of it recently.

There isn't a metal strap with about a 3/8" hole in it that's already bolted to a tab on the downpipe? That's what retains the pipe in position. Without checking, I'm almost sure the other end of the strap bolts to a right side exhaust manifold outlet stud.

In chucksters photo of the downpipe is the left side or the right side the end that slides into the outlet elbow?

Without going out and crawling under my truck, I'm fairly certain the left side of the pipe is the end that slides into the outlet elbow. His pic shows the bracket and tab I was referring to. If you have to weld it onto the pipe I sure wouldn't recommend you doing it without fitting the pipe up into the outlet under the truck and then marking where it needs to go in relation to the stud it bolts to.

I'm not welding the tab onto the block im planning on having a muffler shop weld flares on the downpipe so I can use a V clamp and have the stock outlet elbow work with the 3" pipe

I PM'ed him that yesterday, but now I'm confused about what he's doing.
Dansdiesel, you first posted you got the upgraded (bigger 3") housing and downpipe. If that's the case the new downpipe is a slipfit into the new outlet housing then the rest of the exhaust, if you've gone to 3" all the way back, is all slipfit. But your last post says:"im planning on having a muffler shop weld flares on the downpipe so I can use a V clamp and have the stock outlet elbow work with the 3" pipe" ??

Im using the stock outlet elbow I have the upgraded Turbine housing thats larger. I just ddn't think the $300 they wanted for the outlet elbow was worth it, ATS told me most of your gains come from the turbine housing. maybe that will clear it up. a bit.
