6.9 injectors in 7.3 diesel

Do the injectors froma 6.9 IDI work well in a 7.3 IDI? We have one injector on the 7.3 that has damaged threads; we have a spare 6.9 motor with good injectors.

6.9 or 7.3 injectors are the same, they are all mechanical.

Re: 6.9 injectors in 7.3 diesel

I recommend that you have the pop-off pressures set all the same when you are mixing injectors from different enginesor mixing new and used ones. If you know someone with a pop-off tester this is an easy job, otherwise you might find a diesel shop that will check the injectors and set the 6.9 injector to match your existing 7.3 injectors. I have a pop-off tester, I'm in northwest Indiana and I'll do it for you if you're local.

Technically they are not exactly "the same". The 7.3 injectors have the pintle retracted .060" (I think that's the number) for reduced emissions. This likely changes timing a little, but in a pinch I wouldn't hesitate to do it.

Personally I'd have someone send me a good used 7.3 injector before pulling one out of a donor engine. Not because it's a 6.9 injector but because IMO it's better to keep your "spare" engines as complete as possible.
