You may want to drop down a few forums and ask in the correct forum for that year of engine. But as far as a 7.3 idi it is a good engine, it doesn't have the power that the Powerstoke does but it also is a mechanical engine so it have fewer electrical components to fail. If you need a little more power in it there are always aftermarket turbos to put on the engine.

Without a turbo you will probably feel that the engine is underpowered, especially compared to the engine currently offered in full size pickups.

Most guys that have done turbos will tell you that a turbo is the best thing you can do to wake these engines up...otherwise there are limited options, compared to newer engines, for power boosts....

Good Luck.....

For the last week I've been towing around a 30ft racecar trailer, mostly empty, but tis still 2000 lbs and tons of air drag - at 65 mph I average 14-15mpg, and have no problem passing 18-wheelers, on the long uphills I do lose some speed, but that's only cause I was shooting for best fuel economy. Yesterday I dropped the trailer off, and then got stuck in the morning commute road race - truck easily winded up past the speedometer range. So do they have power - yes they do, not nearly as much as a newer engine, but tis still enough for your basic towing needs and occasional speed-demon stunts.

If you are under 21 the NA IDI probably doesn't have enough power. The older you get, you'll find a NA IDI has more than enough power!
