Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

You can turbo the one you have...... but what overall condition is the engine in, what mileage. Check the oil filler/timing cover tag for correct year punched out...... is it a 92 or 92.5.

How new are the IP, injectors, has it been timed......

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

iof you need a bit of power here and there then get propane or water injection

if you need general power from start to stop get a turbo

if the engine is good then the turbo kit would be best

If you need a price on a turbo kit, or just a part of one, pm me and let me know. But you should do it soon as they're going to be discontinued in December.

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

It's all a matter of how many are made and sold per year. We've had these in production for the better part of 20 years now and there are a lot of them out there, but the demand is no where near where it used to be. If there's enough interest in it they may keep it going but for now it's on the chopping block. So if anybody needs them, or if you just need the turbo kit (no exhaust or gauges) itself, let me know. They are still available and they still have a 5 year warranty.

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

bankspower, Since you're here, can I ask you a question?

My Sidewinder will make max 7-8 psi at WFO. I've have a DPS modified IP and injectors. My EGT's rarely see more than 650-700 at max boost at WFO. To me, these numbers seem low. Even with the wastegate disabled (for a short test, it's hooked up now) the max I saw was 10 psi at WFO.

What do you think? Any other compressor/turbine wheels for the Sidewinder to increase boost?

Thanks,
Heath

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

That system was never ment to go above 12psi max at sea level. This was mostly because of the compression ratio and a concern about the head gaskets. Unless you do something custom that's as high as it's going to go.

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

Did Banks make a turbo for the IDI before the sidewinder? I have a Banks turbo on my truck but it has a different airbox than the sidewinder kits i have seen on other trucks.

Re: 7.3 diesel NEED MORE POWER

There's always Hypermax. I think they're still selling a turbo for the IDI.

Back then there were 2 sidewinder kits. A wastegated and a non-wastegate. The non-gated was ment for vans and motorhomes not trucks, but they were slightly less expensive so people put them in trucks as well. We still have the pressure box and air filter for the wategated set up in stock if you need one. They can be used on the other types.
