Man today I heard the best sound exhaust on any car or truck ever. This kid who has a older 7.3 91 I believe straightpiped his truck or i think he did. I went over to ask him a few questions about it but he was kind off quiet about what he did. But boy this thing is wicked when he gets on it. Very intimidating. Its a true dual exhaust to with 5 inch chrome tips coming out at 45 degree angles in the back. The older 7.3s without turbo sure dont make the power the newer trucks do but boy the sound makes it sounds like a big block gasser. Anybody have this setup on there trucks?
I did that to the Moosestang when I first built it. But unlke an F series where the exhaust exists 10 feet back, on the Bronco, it was about 2 feet back. I drove around thinking I was carrying a huge sign that read "Arrest this man" Not only that, but my fillings were coming loose. I stuck a pair of cherry bombs in the side pipes and never looked back.
My one housemate had a single 3" on his 6.9, and it sounded, very, very nice. Recently he put a 4" dynomax race bullet muffler on it, and it quieted it down just a tad, but still sounds nice.
Mine has a 2 1/2" straight pipe into 3" tips, and I think it sounds decent, just not deep enough.
Another housemate(as well as my ol' man) has 2 1/2" duals with cheery bombs on theirs, and it sounds alot like a big block gasser.

Hello all, my 1989 F-250 has the good ol' 3" straight pipe, from the Y-pipe all the way back, with a 5" slash cut tip. Sounds loud, and is more than capable of setting off car alarms (oops?...hehehehe....), and drowning the 3,000 watt sound systems in cheap import cars. Also, it sounds real good when the engine's noise resonates off the walls on the highway. STRAIGHT PIPES ARE AWESOME!!! "LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES"

I had a 4" setup from just below the manifolds back on an 86 350 that exited in front of the rear wheel . That thing sounded MEAN ! My roomates hated it when I left for work in the morning at 4 am . It was a 4x4 welding truck and I'd always get called to recovery/repair missions . The bystanders always claimed they could FEEL the exhaust blowing on them from 30+ feet away when redlined pulling somebody out
strait pipes are the way to go. its the real sound of the engine no changes, i love it. I have an 86 F250 with a 6.9 and it has strait pipes with the factory pipes up the the bed then 4 inch stacks. it gives me good backpresure for excelleration with a louder sound and the 4" stacks give it a good ecco. when my 86 F250 with the DT466 is done I will have 4 inch straitpipes with 6" dual bullhauler stacks.
I've got dual straight pipes on mine and it sounds deadly. wouldn't trade that sound for the world!!!

Now on these 80's and early 90's fords what they sound like.. ( i am just getting into ford diesels so not familar with them) but i know the dodge diesels sounded like a roaring semi truck coming down the road........... whats these older fords sound like??
Do they sound like them big 400 gas motors? or dound like a diesel semi?
THanks

I always thought that a straight piped 5.9 Cummins sounded about like DT-361 in a Farmall 1206. The semi is close also. If you know what a 534 Ford V8 gas in an early 60's straight truck with dual straight pipes sounds like, you might get close to the 6.9/7.3 They have enough displacement to mimic the high compression of the 6.9/7.3. The 351M/400/429 and 460's, just dont have the deep bellar 6.9/7.3's do. The 534, OR a 430 Lincoln V8...Helped a buddy restore a 63 Lincoln Continental had a set of custom headers on that baby, and we took it out on a fresh solid lifter rebuild....SOUNDED AWESOME till we got a little to heavy on the go pedal and hopped a pushrod, whoops. No damage and the "stinkin lincoln" lives to fight another day. Those 2 are about as close as you'll get...
