I have just replaced my 6.9 with a 7.3 in my 86 F350. I got it started last night and ran it just for a few minutes. I've got all of the wiring issues taken care of I think. I have a question on the glow plug operation. When I turn the key on I heard the controller solenoid click. About 10 seconds later I heard it click again. Then it started to click about once a second. Then I started it up so I really couldn't tell if it stopped. I know the glow plugs are working because I tried to start it without the glow plugs first and no start. I connected power to the controller and it started right up. My wait to start light is not working so I can't use it as an indicator. Does this sound like normal operation?
One other quick question. On the passenger side valve cover I have a port sticking up right behind the dipstick bracket for a hose. I am assuming it is for a breather or something. My 6.9 did not have this port. A lot of 7.3's I have seen do not either. Does anyone know what this is for or where it goes? Would it be safe to block it off? Thanks.
It doesn't look home made. I guess somewhere along the line someone could have swapped covers for some reason. The engine is a used one from a salvage yard. So the non turbo 7.3's normally do not have this port?
I'm guessing your running the 7.3 controller, it sounds good, start once it starts clicking fast. Do you have a cdr? What year truck is the motor out of?

As long as it has a functional cdr i would say you could plug the hole. It probably had a turbo on it.
