the one in my buddy's 86 F250 was 32" if I remember correctly, I got the same issue as you do with a broken off dipstick - still hoping I can find an intact one in the boneyard...

Thanks for the info, I try the repair first then call the local dealerships. The locals guys are very unresponsive. And the online part search yielded no current P/N

I was able to make one using the existing handle. I soldered a stainless steel cable on the end. Then after doing a fresh oil change noted the level then put a solder mark on the cable at the right place. Total cost. Under $10.

My 1990 dipstick has been brazed since I bought the truck in 1994 - still holding up fine! In fact, the brazing seems to centralize the dipstick as it slides down the tube.

In the same boat

Having trouble finding a replacement dipstick online as well, someone mentioned "direct ford parts." Can anyone provide a url for this or any similar sites? Specifically, looking for the replacement dipstick for my '88 F-250 with the 7.3L Diesel, the dang thing snapped right off at the end of the sleeve-no hope of repair that I can think of.
I have seen the universal ones for sale, does anyone have a brand they trust/would suggest?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is 3 different lengths thru the years. To be safe, buy the tube and dip stick together. Try Rockauto, LMC, Autozone, O'reilly, Advance, NAPA PEP Boys. The tube has an o'ring where it slips into the block, some just press in the block.

What is your location?

Dipsticks come in different sizes for sure, last one I dealt with was 5' 6" red headed and had a lisp.
