89 7.3 not running

Picked this truck up super cheap as in scrap iron and thought I would take a chance at getting it going. Previous owner said that it was running rough so he replaced the injectors and it helped but it died the next day and he couldnt get it started again. Someone told him the injector pump was bad and needed to be replaced. My question is that when I checked the oil it was way over the full marks on the stick and was very thin like it was full of diesel fuel. Can the injector pump go out and dump fuel into the crankcase? Can someone suggest a test procedure to see if this engine is any good before spending money on parts?

Could be a bad manual lift pump diaphram...... I think the 89 had the IP main shaft seal that would dump fuel onto the valley pan before in the oil system if it was bad.....

Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when starter cranking engine over. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of starter engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose. When all finished hook up the FSS wire .
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
