89 F350 transmission id

Hi,

Trying to figure out what automatic transmission I have in my 89 F350 crew cab dually, 7.3 diesel and if the tach affects the trans operation.

vin 2ftjw35m5kca22961

It feels like a 3 speed automatic. At 50 I am looking for it to go into another gear

The trans code should be listed on the door panel sticker, VIN doesn't say anything about the transmission.

It's an E4OD 4-speed auto with overdrive. It think that the shift points are determined by RPM, but I'm not sure. Someone else will chime in with all the details.

I feel you have the E4OD but look at the injection pump. If it has an electric switch on the drivers side with 3 wires to it then you have the E4OD. Now if it has a vacuum switch on that side its the C6 trans. Also the sides of the trans case will say E4OD cast into them.

I think you will find a C6....... it is a medium trans size. The E4OD has external reinforcement webbing on the trans and is way larger.......

Those two yes, but also the FIPL/TPS.

Easiest way to figure out the tranny is looking at the shifter indicator and also the dashboard:

a) P-R-N-3-2-1 -> you got the C6
b) P-R-N-D-2-1 and an OD button on the dash to the right of the steering column -> you got the E4OD

Trans code K is C6. Trans code E is E4OD.
