90 7.3 stops pulling totally at 2200????

I am new here and need some advice,I have a 90 F 250 7.3 non turbo,I pulled the truck past 2200 and noticed it shuts down,I did a fuel pump and it helped all out power but it still dies at 2200 Could it be the injection pump? I just got the truck so it was the first time I pulled it past 2000.I did a K&N filter and a 3" exhaust,what else could I do for power?? Thanks,Tim

It could be the IP, if it is still the original IP and injectors, they are probably in need of some service. Your truck should pull strong all the way up to 3K RPMS. The K&N Filter and exhaust probably helped out alot, now look to do some kind of ram air set up, or just bite the bullet and add a turbo. Lots of folks look for cheaper ways for power, but nothing even touches the power a turboed truck will put down. It is expensive, but by the time you add up all the money you end up doing to upgrade intake, exhaust and other things, you would probably be close to what a Hypermax turbo could have costed you. And with the turbo, you will probably have all the power you need, and if not, then you can go about propane, intercoolers, HO IP's and stuff like that to get your power up even further. Scotty

There is a stop on the pax side of the IP with a screw, it may have been adjusted accidently. When you put the pedal fully down in park/nuetral what is the max engine rpm attained. The engine should bounce off the governor at about 3200 rpm + -.
Check my gallery......it is the screw behind (rearward) the idle adjust screw.

I plan on doing a turbo soon,but not until I get this fixed,I want to know the truck is right first.

just to throw in a few minor things to look for, check fuel filter, and the lift pump, check the connections and the rubber hose that does a loop de loop. I remember somebody posting that the rubber hose was to short and the pressure would collapse it. Just a few minor things to glance at before more spendy repairs.

I did a fuel filter and oump,the hoses seem fine,I hope to figure it out this week.

mine wasn't this low of rpm but it did quite pulling about 2600 rpm put a new IP on and man what a difference [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif[/img]
