'90 wiring schematic?

Anybody have or have access to the wiring schematic to a 1990 7.3 4x4? I have a bad positive lead somewhere and narrowed it down to three wires. One is a trailor break wire the previous owner installed, that is def a bad wire (just unhooked it). Now i still have two more wires that are giving me a bad positive lead, the wire coming off the alternator and a wire that routes into a huge bundle, raps in front of the truck and over to the driver side of the truck (when i unhook this wire the truck has NO power).
One...or all three, must be responsible for nucing my new batteries over the winter...

Side note, all three of these problem wires are connected to a plastic motorcroft piece that is mounted in the passenger side on the inside of the fender and has a positive lead directly off the battery. There are also two other positive wires running off this but they are fine.
The wire on the alternator gives me a very dim continuity tester light, while the other wire is very bright when tested. Is an alternator supposed to do that when off? maybe its grounding itself??
I played w it all day till i blew my light in my continuity tester... If anyone could follow my rambling or has any idea to whether these wires are really just fine or they're a bad positive lead feel free to speak...
Thanks in advance!!

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

Disconnect the + battery wire from the alternator then check it. You are trying to read to ground thru diodes.

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

is the positive batter lead your talking about the larger one that is by itself??

I did remove all the connections at once... I wish i could remember, but i think that three of the four connectors that come off the alternator lit up... The larger one that is by itself and two of the prongs that the wire harness plugs into lit up. The one by itself was a dim light so was one of the wires inside the harness-those two were spliced together between the alternator and that plastic motorcroft piece thats mounted on the fender...I assume that one was a positive lead and one was a battery charge lead???

The alternator ran fine before i parked it last fall...

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

Is the alternator an external or internal voltage regulator....also what is the amperage 70. I have some test info if yours meets the criteria.

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

hm.. not sure, i assumed they were all the same on these engines. is there a way to tell whether its an internal or external voltage regulator and what amperage? I haven't replaced the alternator, and it looks stock...

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

Usually on the alternator the amperage is imprinted on the top..... If it is external you will have a voltage regulator on the pax inner fender area.....

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

WillieTwo-Thanks for the picture!!! Thats awesome, helps alot! Now I atleast know what I'm looking at...

cdnsarguy - if it is an external regulator, would i be getting a continuity light on more than just the negative prong coming off the alternator?? Just not sure why the alternator would be putting out a continuity light on more than just the negative prong.

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

I have little personal knowledge re the continuity light... I have the 1990 tests only......one is 9 pages the other is 16 pages. I have not scanned them to my computer yet for forwarding. Gotta tell me which one you have and I will forward the info for you to decipher. Others with hands on info may be able to help you better/faster.... sorry.

Re: '90 wiring schematic?

Well, the writing on the alternator is all worn off, so i dont know what the amperage is, but it is externally regulated.
