So Its been a while since my 1st post...prob 6 months and since then the heads on my engine have been swapped out 3 times!
1st time the radiator shop sent out the new rad with a 7 lb cap that no one noticed till I overheated it and cracked the new heads.
My mechanic got the head guy to give him a new set and one leaked at the rear and needed re-doing again!
Finally got it back last week and noticed a loud tap that sounds like a valve tap in a really old SHOT gas engine!
I read a few old posts that refered to injectors as making a tapping noise and He sent them to the shop He bought them at and had them tested and they are fine~
I got him to agree to let me have someone with lots of experience with these engines to give an opinion as to what the noise is.
I think its a stuck valve or a bad lifter but have no way to prove it.
Otherwise it runs great and does not miss at the tailpipe~!
I would appreciate a referal in the phx az area if possible and can e-mail me at AlanTbird@aol.com
I really want to like this truck but right now its just an 8500.00 paper wieght!

Did you replace all the copper washers when the injectors were checked/reinstalled.
Take off the valve covers and look at the valves as you roll it over on the starter see if anything shows up.

Where was it leaking...... what did they do to fix it.. were the head faces milled.
I can't see a 7lb cap causing overheating that is what I run......... I think you may have been air locked in the heads.....did you replace the Tstat.......
Check my photo section for Tstat and upper coolant manifold check ball.
Done a waterpump replacement recently.........

Ok so this thing just gets worse and worse...I am sick over it! and sick and tired!
Ive tried to get my(EX MECHANIC) some advise..(THANKS KEVIN) but now hes trying to tell me I have a collapsed piston! I am leaving it sit on the street and hoping someone will just come by and steal it~ I still think its a simple thing in the valve/lifter/rocker area but untill I get someone with a good educated ear to hear the noize and advise me, its going to sit! I may try to make a video of it and post it.
I really really want to like this truck but it wont let me....after this is over I guess I will just have to stick with my DODGE!....I am sure that will stir up a few responses~~~ LOL!
I can't see a 7lb cap causing overheating that is what I run......... I think you may have been air locked in the heads.....did you replace the Tstat.......
The combo of a weeker cap/ deluted coolant, towing a 7k k trailer on the biggest incline in AZ will do it! The ENTIRE cooling system is NEW!
You need to find what is tapping........ if the head you installed was rebuilt and the face was shaved below minimums..... a valve could be hitting the piston.
If not because of a shaved face, it could be too long a stem protrusion and the rocker is forcing the valve onto the piston top. There are mandatory specs one must do or keep when doing a 6.9 or 7.3 head.
Suggest a rocker cover removal and check the pushrods/rockers for noise. Just a question did you reuse the old rockers on the new heads.......

I assume He re-used the rockers!
The 1st and second time he put the NEW heads on...they better be new for 1100.oo it sounded GREAT....after the 3rd time he gave it back with the tap and insists the top end is fine! I did take a video and am trying to post it to utube...will prb take till thurs am to get that posted. I have a guy from the forum willing to help only thing hes about 40 mi away.
Ok so it took me 4days and a trip to radio shack to make a utube vid!
Sorry about the VID quality but its my 1st one and this is a new camera and I am NO Steven Spielberg...I think the resolution is too low but you can hear the noise I am whinning about!
any and all comments will be greatly appreciated!
Never used Youtube but I cant get it to download.... for my listening pleasure.

you should just have to click on it....no need to join anything.....if your on dialup then there could be a problem
So I am mad enough now to do something. The truck is useless to me or anyone who may want to buy it!.....just pulled it in my yard, identified the noisy cyl. and I'm goin in!
Ok..I got er opened and so far see nothing unusual....guessing now I need to know what to look for. The cyl in question is on the pass. side and second in from the front of the truck.
I loosened the inj fitting and the noise stopped or got so low it was unnoticable.
I could pull the rockers and push rods but would prefer some guidence as what I am looking for..........I would love to dream it would be simple enought to replace them with new but that would be TOO easy......after all~~~ITS A FORD for cryminy sakes!
Good point David...... black soot would be visible, so look for that Allen.
