'93 7.3 to '97 PSD engine swap

How hard would it be to put a '97 PSD in a '93 with a non-turbo 7.3? The '93 is in great shape, but I want the PSD for more power. The '97 engine is in good shape but the body is 2WD and not a super cab. I guess what I am trying to say is that I want my '93 4WD super cab to have the PSD that my '97 has in it . Has anyone done it before? The hard part looks to be in getting the computer controls swapped over, if that's even possible.

If you have both trucks sitting side-by-side, I don't think its a big deal. Its just intimidating for some guys to wrestle with the PSD harness. Do they have the same trans? i.e. both autos or both 5-speeds? If so, I'd do it.

Yes .....both are automatic. It doesn't look like there's much difference between the two.

Nope, not really. You might have to switch the flex plates out because of different bolt patterns. You need several things from the 97, the IDM and the computer itself. The idm is the big box on the drivers side quarter panel. The computer is below that and stuck in the firewall, you can only see the end of it. You MIGHT ,I say might, have to swap out the pedal assemblys too. I am pretty sure the 93 has a cable attached to the pedal. The PSD uses an electronic pedal sensor. Just take all the wires going from the engine to body off and make sure they correspond to correct parts (IE water in fuel, wait to start) on the 93. You should probably swap in the tranny thats on the PSD now. I think the e4od tranny and the psd computer communicate with each other.

Gewd luck!

The switch you are comtemplating has been done many times by people on here. Do the search. Especially the OBS IDI to 1997 or earlier Powerstroke. All that have done it like it as far as I have read
