What can be done to up the power from a 1994 7.3IDI with the factory turbo? Currently the fuel has been turned up and bit and the boost has been bumped to about 13psi max. It also has an aftermarket exhaust (perhaps Banks). It runs fine, just looking for a little more ooomph.
I love the truck, so the other possibilities include swapping in a newer Powerstroke or a Cummins v12 or v24. I'm not here for the Powerstroke / IDI / Cummins battle, just looking for some information.
What mods are available?
Has anyone done a PS swap?
Has anyone done the Cummins swap?
put in your avatar where your at--short of tearing it down--and doing a bunch of mods-----could add water mist injection for a bit more umphhh--or--add propane--but dont get carried away with either--your engine is 22:1 comp!!!!!

If your still running the stock down pipe then its time to upgrade that. While your at it just remove the muffler too and run it straight piped. The motor will run softly till you really need it. Then everything gets loud when your using it pulling a load up a grade. Remember its a diesel so its louder under load. An intercooler will help out quite a bit too.

get ats updated exhuast outlet and the 3" downpipe. it's a sob to change but what a difference. on my old truck i ran 14lbs. of boost and had the fuel screw maxed out. also four inch striaght pipe. gauges are a must! if you do alot of heavy towing you'll have to fine tune the fuel a little. i tried an intercooler it really killed the off idle boost. for the towing i did i got rid of it. pulling an 18' car trailer empty i could outrun 2000 stock psd empty!! any questions give me a holler!

After 8 lbs of boost without an intercooler you are going backwards in performance because the air is so hot.

An intercooler is a good next step. Your egts will drop and you can turn the fuel up a little more.
If you want big power, I'd suggest a 12V swap, as it is the easiest to swap in with the lack of electronics, etc. Get a 94-97 with the p7100 injection pump.
Type4, I didn't know you posted here, or had an IDI!!

I went out and looked at the down-pipe and I realized I was not sure what I was looking for. The previous owner has the work done to the truck, but I am not sure he did the outlet or down-pipe. Where can I find some pictures of stock and aftermarket outlets and down-pipes?
Also, how much of a PITA is it to change out? Where is a good source for aftermarket outlets and down-pipes?
I am pretty sure it has the Banks 3" exhaust on it. Anyone have a good source for an intercooler?
I'd like to go the 12V route eventually, but that is big money for me at the moment.
