94 TURBO IDI OIL IN WATER. TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

Im looking at a 94 turbo IDI f350 crewcab 5 speed 4x4 155k ono owner in good condition. The problem is that their is oil in the water. No water in the oil runs great lots of power and sounds great. New injection pump and other parts. They are asking $5,300. Do you think the oil cooler is bad or cavitation. Their is no blow by out of the oil fill tube. Also what do you think of the price if its just the oil cooler? Thanks.

with that problem its not worth the risk to buy it unless you have a mechanic investigate.

Re: 94 TURBO IDI OIL IN WATER. TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

Usually oil in water means bad O-rings in the oil cooler.

Offer to split the cost of the oil cooler O-ring R&R 50/50 with the seller. If that fixes it, then buy the truck. If not....... well that's up to you.

Re: 94 TURBO IDI OIL IN WATER. TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

Well sounds like the oil cooler would be a fairly safe bet. Dose cavitation ever cause the oil in the water problem? Setting the oil cooler problem aside do guy’s thing that 5,300 would be a fair price for the truck? P.S. thanks for the replies this helps a lot!!!!

I'm with Mr R...split the cost of cooler rings or offer them $1000 of the top and roll the dice.

If there is no rust, and the price and condition of the truck plus 4K for a new engine still looks like a good deal to you, I'd give him the money and run. If he finds out it's just a few dollars worth of O-rings responsible, he may get it fixed and the price may go up to where it should be.

Re: 94 TURBO IDI OIL IN WATER. TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

Well I talked with the owner today. He won't budge on the price at all. I took a closer look at it today and found the following problems. Exhaust leak on the drive's side, leaking oil out of both valve covers, power mirrors broke, fan speed selector broke, dual mass flywheel needs replacing, recant paint work on the backend of the truck = possible accident, big big dent in the bed under the new plastic bed liner. I’m thinking just to many things wrong for that price. Anywise thanks for the advice you guys are great.

Re: 94 TURBO IDI OIL IN WATER. TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

I use to have a truck much like that until I had to sell it. I'm in the market again and will be traveling near where you are located shortly to visit family. That truck sounds very interesting to me, do you mind giving me the contact info of the person selling it?
