Adjusting the Fuel injector pump.

I have a 1994 7.3L ford F250. It smokes alot (whiteish smoke) after cranking and at idle. It smokes more when its cold out.

After reading alot of post, I have thought that maybe it is not getting enough fuel??? Maybe timing of fuel injection pump, or the amount being injected?

On a side note, it overheats when I pull my 5500 lb boat over 55 mph. Im replacing the radiator, due to it having a slight leak now, but the truck over-heated even before the leak. Maybe the new radiator will help, but I heard that fuel problems could cause over heating.

Thanks in advance

Eric

Re: Adjusting the Fuel injector pump.

Sounds like GPs may not be working.... What tstat do you have installed.... MUST BE a Ford or IH.... How old are the injectors and IP. White smoke for up to 2 minutes is in some cases normal.

Re: Adjusting the Fuel injector pump.

The glow plugs do not work at all. I need to replace them, but that should not cause it to smoke at idle, say after the truck runs for 2 hours, the smoke has a harsh fuel smell to it and burns your eyes.

Re: Adjusting the Fuel injector pump.

You sound retarded. I mean your injection timing.
Sorry, I could't resist saying that.
Retarded timing can cause white "cold smoke" even with a warm engine.
In my experience, retarded timing can cause higher exhaust temperatures. Not sure about coolant temps, though.
Do you have a Ford Motorcraft thermostat in it, or an aftermarket thermostat? An aftermarket thermostat can cause overheating problems.

Re: Adjusting the Fuel injector pump.

How do you adjust the injection timing?
