advance timing or turn up fuel?

i had the timing set by an international dealer last spring, but i still think that the motor doesn't sound right based on how my friend's sounds and drives
i want to get more fuel anyway, should i try to turn it up from behind the cover plate on the side of the pump or advance the whole pump? i already had it set and im not sure if i want to mess around with it
let me know what you think..
thanks,
kevin

Re: advance timing or turn up fuel?

ok one good question... when you have it ont he fast idle do you hear a injection noise liek a powerstroke does? whenever the fastidle kicks down does that noise go away? if so your right on the timing by listening to the motor. Is your truck turbo or not also? I am guessing it is in the truck in your signature correct?

1990 f-350 4x4 when bought had tons of problems and also had no tranny ot transfercase
4 speed tranny, transfercase installed, new injectors, advanced timing like it should be, new voltage regualtor, has meyers plow, new clutch master cylinder, I have wiring problems with it right now on the interior guages

Re: advance timing or turn up fuel?

it is the truck in my signature.
and no, the rattle is always there. there's a powerstroke at my house and a bunch of my friends have them, i should listen to it again to see exactly how it sounds but i know mine rattles a lot more.
also, have you heard about turning up the bolt in the back of the pump? you're supposed to turn it until the idle raises ~500 rpms then adjust the idle.. so its putting in more fuel
