Just come off the Y pipe and increase the size of the rest of the exhaust... you will need a muffler if no turbo installed. Not too much available for the IDI.....

What Pete said - the PSD exhaust will work good, you just gotta bring your pipe size up to match, and it's best that you do this right behind the Y-junction. I personally run the factory Y-pipe with a big straight-through Magnaflow muffler, the muffler has a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets, and I have dumps right before the rear axle - sounds pretty good to me, nice and rumbly but at the same time fairly quiet. Before that I had a full 3" straightpiped exhaust, a single 3" slant-cut stack, a single 2.5" turnout stack, and a full 2.5" straightpiped exhaust, and I like this one I currently have the most.

How come you need a muffler? Is it just because of noise or can it damage or make the engine lose power?
Noise, it's pretty ridiculous really if you have no turbo - when I had the 3" stack my regular co-pilot couldn't hear her thoughts (and like me she is half-deaf already), then when I switched over to full-length 3" exhaust it was much nicer in the cab but if I were driving in a tunnel or next to a tall retaining wall it was again pretty darn loud, and I can only imagine how bad it must have been for the passengers of any vehicle I passed while revving at 3k! A turbo chops up the sound pretty good, so no muffler is needed to keep exhaust noise to manageable levels. If you wanna talk regulations by Johnie Law, a turbo is actually considered a sound-deadening device, just like a muffler is, so you can have one or the other or both, but you really shouldn't run without any of them.
