Air entering fuel system immediately after shutdown.

Help!! 30 seconds to a minute after turning off the engine I can watch bubbles first small then large enter the clear return line that I installed at the filter header to cyl #1 return line nipple. The clear line that I have installed on the injection pump return line stays air free. I have replaced the return line o-rings and fittings. Is this fuel flowing back to the tank via the supply line through the pump ? Or possibly via the return line? Any help on this will be much appreciated. Thanks

There could be a return line cap incorrectly seated.. reseat them again with caution. Did you use a kit or buy separate parts etc.

Not a kit but OEM parts from Ford. Thanks for the reply. I have started to think that it is not a return line problem since I can watch bubbles come from the direction of the filter header in the clear line that I installed on the barbed fitting next to the schrader valve.

Re: Air entering fuel system immediately after shutdown.

Check the filter for tight....top and base. Did you grease the upper gasket and lower oring. Tighten hand tight then 1/2+ turn with a filter wrench... as per the book. check the filter "IN" line seal under the cap nut on the steel line, See my gallery pic.

That check valve is supposed to allow air into the return lines FROM the filter/header but only one way. So the air intrusion must be from the filter or line seals, lift pump inlet hose ????

Re: Air entering fuel system immediately after shutdown.

Okay, filter is tight, fuel line seals look good, but I can watch air, it looks like it is getting pulled from the filter header into the return line running from the header to the 1st injector return cap. Does the fuel lift pump have a check valve that could be toast? Because as soon as I shut down the motor it happens, fuel in the return line moves quickly toward the engine and air bubbles in from the filter header. Any more advice will be appreciated as I must get this plow truck starting more easily before I really need it. Runs like a champ once its going.
