Air intake

Can anyone tell me if there is an aftermarket performance air intake for my 92 7.3? I have been searching the web for hours trying to find something besides a turbo to get air in it!

Re: Air intake

Most people make their own "ram air" by cutting out the D/side rad area and running a 4 inch drier hose. The only people that make an after market intake is hypermax, it is cowl induction.

Re: Air intake

I have been wondering why someone hasn't used a hood scoop.
I am sure I could make a mating ring that the hood shuts down on.
I suppose it would be best to face it backwards to keep the rain out.
It sure seems easier than removing the grill and sawing out a chunk of the radiator support.
It would make the hose shorter and lower the resistance of the air flow.

Ya got me thinking!
How did you make out?

Re: Air intake

WiFiGuy,

I got the kit. Have not installed it because, I have been thinking about the same thing you have. Why not put a scoop on the hood?
I asked a buddy about water getting in and he said it shouldn't be that big of a deal. The air filter housing has at least one hole to allow the water to drain.
Anybody out there tried the hood scoop?
I don't mind cutting a hole in the hood

Re: Air intake

How much improvement in performance do you expect?
How are you to determine that you have achieved an improvement?

Just wondering?

Re: Air intake

Bob,

If you have a pyrometer, you will surely notice lower EGT's...thats a plus. You can use the patented "seat-of-your-pants Dyno," also. To me, extra turbo whistle is always a positive perk.

Re: Air intake

I thought about slotting the hood right over the air box,cut the top off it and install a conical spin-on K&N.

Re: Air intake

Actually, I don't have a Turbo so it isn't that big a deal.
I really want to gain back the space that that hose and plastic nozzle take up. It is right over the battery and seems to always be in the way.
I kinda thunk if I take the "Clothes pin off the engines nose" it should breath a little better.
"Besides hood scoops are cool and I never had one".
Hey sign_guy How about dual stacks next?

Make the Verizion guys envious.
