Are all 7.3 idi the same

I have a 94 7.3 IDI turbo. Motor has cracked piston. I want to replace it with a 1990 7.3 motor.

Any transition issues I need to work out? Will the computer go nuts if I put the non-turbo motor in? Where there motor design changes?

Also What is different between the Idi turbo and Non-turbo motor. I believe the fuel pump is different and the injectors, but is everything else the same. Can I put the turbo on the 90 motor?

Any thoughts and expertise would be appreciated

The differences are list below per Tom Brewer's IDI history article at O i l b u r n e r s . n e t:
Cylinder head gasket heavier ring and armor wrap

Increased wrist pin bore on connecting rods

Larger wrist pin

Anodized piston head

Keystone design top and intermediate piston rings

Increased number of oil passages in oil cooler (30 fin/inch vs. 24 on NA)

Turbo specific flywheel

Turbo specific vibration dampener

Turbo injector pump

Turbo injectors

Modified injector fuel return line routing

Modified E4OD dipstick

Modified E4OD turbo micro processor

Turbo specific cooling fan clutch

Lower restriction exhaust

And yes, you can use the '90 IDI and put your turbo on it. I'd rebuild that IDI turbo motor if I were you. They are a bit sturdier and getting harder to find.

Since I need the Truck up and running soon. I am thinking about buying the non turbo motor and putting it in while I rebuild my old motor. Any electronic or transition things I need to be aware of since the new motor will not have the Turbo on it

All you should need would be the tach sensor. The computer is for the transmission operation only and does not manage or monitor any engine functions except RPM for the shift points. You don't even have a computer if your truck has a 5 speed manual.
