Another controller issue.

Mine is a 94 idi factory turbo. I have been reading hundreds of postings on this subject. I have changed out my plugs to Beru's. The old Delphi's looked good and were showing .5/.6 on the ohmmeter. I cleaned my battery posts well, checked my relay for output, charged my batteries to perfection and cleaned the controller ground. The wts light still goes off in 4/5 seconds in 40 degree weather. I have hooked a trouble light to the glowplugs and the relay is putting out good voltage.

I still don't get my motor to start with out extra cranking and then running very rough for a minute or so.

If I jump the relay and get current to the plugs for 10 seconds it will start and run rough for a bit and then clean up. If I plug it in it will start right up and run smooth.

Three times in a month I have turned the key on and got no response at all. No light or ammeter drop or clicking. But the next time I tried it it would cycle.

My question now is do you guys think it is time for a new controller? I have one on order and it seems like the piece of the puzzle. What do you think?

I posted this by mistake in 94/97 7.3.

Joe

Sounds like a possible fuel related problem with the rough running part...... is fast idle and timing advance working. What is fast idle rpm set at.......

NEVER FORCE FEED POWER FOR 10 SECONDS TO THE GPS........ OR YOU WILL BE GETTING NEW ONES.

IF YOU WANT THE CONTROLLER TEST PM ME YOUR EMAIL.

I don't think it is is fuel. It only runs rough for a minute or less. I get some white smoke while it is running rough. The fast idle is working fine and the engine is cranking fast. With the temperature at 40 degrees the controller only stays on steady for about 4 or 5 seconds and then switches on/off for about 35. From reading here it should stay on steady for twice that long. Is that correct? I pm'ed you for the test, thanks. Joe

Yes, 4/5 seconds in 40 degree weather, have you checked the ground connection for a clean tight connection.

P.S. The advice of anyone with 18,000 posts can be considered excellent advice.
