any fast idi's?

im from the 94-97 forum and i was just wondering what kind of power you all are getting from these engines. my sister has an idi and i was thinking of "borrowing it" for a while and modding it out for her. just wondering what numbers your getting.

Re: any fast idi's?

Not sure about fast, and what kind of numbers you are looking for. Most here with modded IP's and Injectors with a turbo and propane are probably pushing around 250-275HP, nothing earth shattering. But they are "usually" pretty reliable.. Scotty

Ken (land_yaght on thedieselstop) at DPS Performance has 400+ hp 6.9's and uses them in truck pulls.

Re: any fast idi's?

I know I can go 100 MPH Thats with 4.10 gears and 36" tires. Fifth gear at 3200 rpm. Plenty fast for me.
A friend confirmed the speed as he was following. From 75 to 100 it pulls something fierce. All this with a Hypermax turbo and straight pipe, Cowl induction and K&N filter.

Re: any fast idi's?

Is 90 miles an hour with a loaded car trailer in tow fast enough?

I slowed 'er down once I realized I was going so fast. :-)

Re: any fast idi's?

I just picked mine up today. I had to go to Kansas city to get it.
Driving back, I had to keep slowing down. This truck just keeps pulling! at 80 mph@2500, she wants to go! I absolutely believe this truck could break 100 or more. I Love this truck!! Swapping my Camaro for it is the smartest thing I've done since I Married my wife.

Re: any fast idi's?

Back to the power issue, With the banks kit installed which includes new exhaust you get about 260hp. When I go with a 4 inch exhaust I might squeeze a few more out but not much. With kens injectors and turbo calibrations along with propane or water injection your over 300hp easy. And another thing on the speed, I wish our speedometers went over 85mph or at least there was a way to fix it.

Re: any fast idi's?

You might be at 260 at the flywheel but nobody has been much above 200hp at the rear wheels with just a turbo. I would think with Ken's IP and Injectors, and propane I am probably on the highside of 250 now. Maybe a touch more. Those Banks claims must be made on a full moon, in Transyvannia, with the warlocks rubbing the turbo, and on Friday the 13th. I have seen a few dynos with just the turbo and turned up injection and most are right around 200Hp or less. Not being a ney sayer, just haven't seen any over 250 YET... Scotty
