I hear that on some turbo kits you have to cut the body seem, beat the firewall and/or floor boards. I'm considering installing an ATS kit on my truck but am tryin to get an idea of how big the job is, any insight you guys have would be great.
I usually do all of my own work on trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, and Jet-skis so I'm no stranger to turning a wrench but don't want to get in over my head.
Thanks in advance
Pete

Had one on my 89 F350 since about a week after I bought it new, 115000 on the truck now and runs great and never had a problem with it. Probably the best veh accessory I ever bought.
Most every turbo kit for the IDI calls for the existing tiny flat downpipe to be replaced with a much bigger one. Besides installing a body lift kit, the firewall flange does require notching and bending back to get required room for the new, bigger, ROUND, downpipe.

All three require body mods, unless you do the body lift. It is not that bad of a job, pretty easy, just get a sawzall, and some good pry bars and you should be fine. It is well worth the effort. Scotty
I'm looking at a used ATS setup on ebay. The guys is telling me it mounts:
I remember this one being mounted to the valley pan and bolts to the back of where the air cleaner mounts.
Now when I look at a new kit it looks like you get a new valve cover. Does what this guy is saying sound right? Did any of the ATS model turbos come non-wastegated?

The early ATS's were Non-Wg-ed.. No big deal. I am sure you will jsut have to punch a hole in our valve cover or build a Road Draft Tube. Either way, if you are buying a used turbo, look and see if it going to need to be rebuilt, if it is even questionable, get it rebuilt, that way you know what you have. You should be fine, hopefully you are getting a good deal, turbos ROCK. Scotty
