A buddy of mine tried the resealer didn't last very long. He said it would of been cheaper finding another tank. I ended up trading him one. The steel in the tank gets thin and flimsy does your tank feel solid ? I believe I got another if you need on. Hope this helps. Kevin

I had rusty tanks also. I tried having them cleaned, but just ended up with pinholes. Had them braised but didn't last long either. Ended up buying both new plastic tanks from www.mtscompany.com Okiegringo
Thanks, Unfortunately I have a van and MTS doesnt make tanks for vans.
It is my rear tank. Seems pretty solid still. I am still trying to hunt down a tank, but I may have to muriatic acid treat then seal or no seal and use it. If anyone has a rear tank let me know please.
Thanks
Eric

I just used a wire brush cup that goes on a 4" angle grinder to clean all of the scale from mine, and I did find some pinholes mostly around where the tank straps wrapped and where it went under the cross members (front tank).
After wire brushing, I wiped it down with a rag with lacquer thinner on it, then brushed on this stuff called Seal All that can be found at auto parts stores or walmart. It's a clear sealant that says it is impervious to gas, oil, etc. After that I repainted the whole tank, then I sprayed that rubber undercoating (also at walmart) that comes in a spraycan over all of the areas where the straps/crossmembers ride. It seems ok so far...

Lots of ways for a DIY'er to clean and seal (if necessary) a gas tank. Just do a search on "cleaning a rusty fuel tank" or something like.
I've cleaned many with muratic acid and you end up with a new looking tank. I used short concete nails inside the tanks to scrub the tank. Add the acid, nails and shake, shake, shake. You get the idea.
Don't forget to remove the nails, they can be used on the next tank.
