ATS Turbo just installed...exhaust leak question...

Hey guys-

I just got done installing my ATS turbo system on my 92 IDI. The kit was purchased used and looks to be in fine condition. I also installed a MBRP 4" exhaust system and a set of gauges. My question is this: I seem to have a pretty good exhaust leak from where the inlet pipe and downpipe slip into the cast exhaust housing on the turbo. Is there supposed to be any sort of gasket in there? From what I could see on the ATS site, it looks like they just slip in there dry. The collector flanges mated up to my stock manifolds fine and seem to be sealed up, and the MBRP was easily mated to the 3" ATS downpipe with a little fabrication, and I don't believe it leaks there. When driving the truck, the exhaust leak can be heard thru the firewall and drives me nuts.

Driving impressions? Turbos rock. I knew that from my Supra, but had no idea how much a little boost would wake up my old Ford. The exhaust note with the 4" is awesome, and the extra smoke just pisses off the guy next to me at stoplights. I love it!!!!!!!

Re: ATS Turbo just installed...exhaust leak question...

Ryan if you have the old non-wasted gate ATS turbo then a small exhaust leak at the downpipe turbo junction is not abnormal and should seal itself up in a couple hundred miles. If it is more than a small exhaust leak you might want to make sure that the downpipe is fully seated in the cast iron turbo housing. Hope that helps.

Re: ATS Turbo just installed...exhaust leak question...

Ryan,
When I put my Hypermax on, they recommended coating the periphery of the down-pipe flange (where it engages in the turbo housing) with so-sieze. Also check to make sure you're not actually hearing a pipe in contact with the firewall- it could be mistaken for a leak. Like the previous poster said, it'll likely seal up in a while. Good luck,

Keith

Re: ATS Turbo just installed...exhaust leak question...

Thanks guys...

I did put some anti-sieze on the piping before I assembled it. I'm certain that nothing is contacting the firewall. I had a problem with that and it was LOUD in the cab. Thats been fixed, and I now have plenty of clearance around the downpipe. I guess I'll have to drive it some and see what happens.
