Hey guys,I
I have a 91 7.3 extended cab dually with an E4OD that I am swapping to a 5 speed (just wanted a manual). I have the 5 speed donor truck here already and would like to know if it is a totally straightforward swap. Is there anything that I need to know upfront that will save me alot of headache's and such? I have searched several times and it seems pretty easy, but I am on dial up and searching takes forever, so I thought I would just come out and ask so that I can get started. Just a few questions... I need to swap the flywheels correct? And, is the ZF5 the same length as the E4OD (I don't think so). Thanks in advance for the replies. Cole
I just did a swap from the C6 auto trans to the 5 speed ZF I did not have a computer in my vehicle however I can tell you that you will need a new flywheel as the one in your donor truck is most likely going to be a dual mass flywheel I went with a single mass flywheel when I did my swap over Hope this will help you.
why can't I just use the one from the donor truck, I would think that if I swapped all the parts from the donor to my current truck that they would work just as the factory intended them to? Could anyone shed some light on this as to why it wouldn't work? Thanks for the replies
gotcha,
I had always seen mention of the dual mass vs. Single mass flywheel discussion, but I am still fairly new to the 7,3 idi world. So if I get a single mass flywheel what should I get (LUK...?) and where is the cheapest place to get it. I am trying to do this on the CHEEEEAAAAPPPP! So far after I sell a few parts and scrap some, I have about $50 in the swap. Anyone need any parts???? Thanks for the replies guys, you all are awesome. Cole
I went with a Luk flywheel and clutch set there are others out there but after a lot of research I decided that Luk was the better due to warranty and workmanship hope this will help you out
