A bad idea?

I replaced a segment of my fuel suction line from the tank selector valve to where it meets the steel line (maybe a little more than a foot in length) with a rubber gates 5/16" fuel hose. Im wondering if it will collapse with the mechanical pump sucking on it. Before it had the plastic lined hoses but I broke one and went back with straight up rubber.
I dont know if the ford house still sells those or not but Im thinking that they may be stiff for a reason. Im curious because its no fun having to bum a ride to the parts store!

It will eventually, but it will take some time.

I used "Superthane" fuel line because it does better under vacuum and I have my Dura-lift pump mounted on the fenderwell up higher.

It's not always easy to find vendors for that stuff, but if you do a search it appears you can buy it in about 100' lengths from the manufacturer.

You can by that plastic stuff too, it is "nylon". I found the connectors and such at a hydraulic supply house where I am. Auto parts stores carry it to some degree.

I've had a piece from frame to engine (pump) and several pieces between tank, primary filter, and a primer pump all mounted on my rear cross member for years. I do replace it occasionally if it starts looking cracked but I have never had it collapse. I'm using 3/8" not 5/16"

The piece to the lift pump from the steelcrossover is a standard fuel hose.. useing a good grade of fuel line on the tank should be all you need. There are fuel line repair parts at most AP stores.
