hi everyone,i was quoted 350 dollars over the phone for a rebuild injector pump, when i got there ,i explained that my van would not start after sitting for awhile and would only start if i poured water over the pump. The priced jump to 480 dollars because there were more to rebuild if that was the problem said the salesman,i'm i getting ripped off, and how long do i have before the injector stop working completely.Just notice this problem two days ago.

Point to remember is some rebuilders replace only the parts they find worn beyond limits. Consequently you will still have old parts and new parts wearing at different rates......kinda like putting new underwear on without a shower.
you can but injection pumps (rebuilt ones) for 480 and once you switch the pumps out you send them your core back so you have hardly any downtime. i think you can get a better deal then that.

what does pouring water on the pump do to make it start???
[/ QUOTE ]
As the pump heats up the housing expands making the bores larges so that there is so much clearance around the pump pistons that they can't generate enough pressure to pop the injectors.
The water cools down the housing and makes it shrink some. Use caution when doing this, room temperature water only, cold water can cause the pump to crack.

You interseted?
EDIT: It was a spare for my '93 F-250 that I'm selling. It was remanufactured in September 2005 and has been stored in oiled plastic ever since. I just looked at it and it is in pristine, excellent condition - just like it came from the rebuilder

i just had an injector pump and return line kit installed on my 89 dually and the total with tax came to $537.00 including timing. Diesel Care is selling them on Ebay for 265.00 and it just so happens this guys shop is about twenty miles from my house. Went over and talked to him about my truck and he told me what I needed and two days later so good so far. Seems like honest people and has a very clean organized shop. They had about four or five guys rebuiling pumps while I was there and while watching I did notice when they took parts out of the old pumps they were being thrown in trash bins. I've only had my truck back for two days now but it does run much better than before. The true test will be when I pull my camper in about three more weeks.
